People who think a gluten-free diet is not just for people with coeliac disease but for anyone who wants to be healthier, might be alarmed by the latest study from Harvard University. It reveals an inverse relationship between gluten intake and type 2 diabetes. People who consume the most gluten, explains James Brown, have an 80% lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes compared with those who consume the least.
As the UK gears up for Brexit, there has been much talk of appealing to the Commonwealth for new trade deals. Stan Neal highlights the irony of turning to this "Empire 2.0" when it was the British Empire that unleashed the increasingly unpopular forces of globalisation in the first place.
It's been just over five months since the Calais refugee camp known as the "Jungle" was cleared by French police. Since then, some of its former residents have made it to the UK but others remain stuck in holding centres in France, left in limbo.
