Volleyfest 2019 is the fifth edition of this popular event, which showcases a series of beach volleyball events for all levels in a fun, family-friendly atmosphere. Spectators can watch visiting countries compete in exciting Volleyball tournaments while soaking up the beachside lifestyle and relaxed community of Manly. The very best teams from around the world go head to head with 10 days of action on the
sand, as well as live music, DJs, celebrity matches, food stalls and giveaways. “VolleyFest on Manly Beach has become one of the preferred destinations for the best beach volleyball players in the world. Visit sydney.com/destinations ![]() 41st SYDNEY MARDI GRAS FESTIVAL DAZZLES IN 2019Celebrating the fearless and fabulous as well as all things LGBTQI, the 41st Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Festival has wrapped up for another dazzling year. With a theme of Fearless, the 2019 festival culminated in the iconic parade along Sydney’s Oxford Street on Saturday night, showcasing more than 200 colourful floats and attracting over 300,000 rainbow-robed revellers. This year, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders marked the start of the parade with a Welcome to Country ritual and First Nation floats were among the earliest to appear, followed by LGBTQI representatives from corporate, sporting, government and charity groups. To everyone’s delight, pop princess Kylie Minogue made a surprise appearance during the parade alongside drag queens led by Courtney Act, all dressed like the petite singer. Ms Minogue, in a shimmering gold dress, waved to cheering crowds and even hugged some excited fans before exiting the parade. Media were recently treated to a sneak peek of the cast fine tuning their moves and tunes, and Saturday Night Fever is gearing up to be a spectacular disco extravaganza with Marcia Hines playing The Diva, Euan Doidge as Tony, Melanie Hawkins as Stephanie, and star vocalists Paulini, Bobby Fox, Natalie Conway and Nana Matapule. Visit saturdaynightfever.com.au KOOKABURRAS CELEBRATE WIN AGAINST SPAIN IN HOCKEYThe Australian men’s and women’s hockey teams are off to a flying start in the 2019 Fédération Internationale de Hockey (FIH) Pro League matches, currently taking place in Sydney. The competition pits the world’s nine best men’s and women’s teams against each other with three match days being held at Sydney Olympic Park throughout March, supported by Destination NSW. The first of the matches took place last Saturday, with the Kookaburras downing Spain 2-1 and the Hockeyroos beating the USA by the same margin. There is still time to catch some of the world’s best hockey players in action with both Australian teams taking on Argentina on Saturday 16 March.
