When it comes to reality TV, glossy magazines and the internet, there is no shortage of advice on finding the ideal partner. But to what extent does the world of pop culture provide insights that legitimately speak to the key characteristics we look for in that special someone? Well for one thing, men are not from Mars and women not from Venus.

Pop culture reflects gross exaggerations about what we deem as important in the ideal partner. From an evolutionary psychology standpoint, both men and women are drawn to people that encompass the same fundamental characteristics.
