Next week we're starting work to replace a section of water main along Port Hills Road. We're also busy constructing the Simeon Quay pump station and completing the final phase of the Heathcote Valley pipeline. On behalf of the team, thanks for your patience while we complete these works. Port Hills Road water main renewalWe are replacing a 600-metre section of the local water main along Port Hills Road, between the roundabout at Martindales Road intersection and Mauger Drive. We will do this by open trenching along the carriageway and footpaths. This work will run from Monday 18 May, with an expected finish date of 28 August. Pedestrian access will be available at all times. works will be completed within working hours of 7am - 6pm and noise disturbance will be kept to a minimum. If we need to do any works outside of these times, we’ll let you know before works begin. Our contractors Fulton Hogan will be distributing start work notices to local residents prior to work starting. Once we’ve completed this work, we’ll continue monitoring the condition of the road surface and carry out temporary works to repair the road surface and hold the seal in the short term. We plan to carry out the full road reshaping works during our next road construction season, in spring or summer when there are more favourable weather conditions. Bridle Path works ongoingWe have encountered some very hard rock near the tunnel portal in the area where we are planning to install Lyttelton wastewater line. This rock is close to the existing water supply pipe which feeds Lyttelton. Making big strides at Simeon QuayWe've just finished building the roof of the Simeon Quay pump station. This brand new pump station is the powerhouse that will pump all of Lyttelton Harbour's wastewater over the hill and on to the main Christchurch treatment plant at Bromley. We've installed internal lights and poured the slab for the backup generator that will help power the pump station in case of a power outage.
