Brewer Header

Welcome to the June Newsletter.  As winter descends upon us, its a geat time to be brewing like a mad thing - too cold to be in the pool or at the beach, but pefect for getting down those lagers now that you'll consume when the weather warms up again (And they'll be well matured as well!) .  You could even spend a bit more time in the kitchen making cheeses while it is cool or cooking up a few home-made sausages to warm you at night.

So, enjoy our newsletter - we are still refining the new version -  thank you for the feedback already received and please feel free to send us your comments (duncan@brewerschoice.com.au).  If you really like the newsletter, why not pass it onto someone else and share the joy of making great products yourself.

Have a great month brewing.   Cheers  David

Spotted Cow Beer Festival : 11-13 June, Toowoomba

It's not often we promote another company in our newsletter, but as serious connoisseurs of great beer, we are very happy to promote the "Milk the Cow" beer festival at the Spotted Cow Hotel in Toowoomba. The hotel recently won Best Beer Venue for Queensland in the Beer and Brewer awards.  All commercial beer taps will be turned off in a ceremony at 8pm on Friday, then it's on for young and old. With a huge launch party following the ceremony, a huge variety of Australia's best craft-brewed beers on tap, matching food served, beer master classes, live bands and the opportunity to talk up-close and personal with the guys who are living the dream and brewing all these great beers, it'll be the best beer weekend Queensland has had for a very long time.  This week end is going to go off like a frog in a sock - accommodation is already at a premium in Toowoomba.  So check out all the details at their website, and we will see you up there.  I am definitely going!!!!!!!  Check it out at http://www.spottedcow.com.au

Queensland Home Brewing Conference

As Brewers Choice customers, you are first to formally hear about the upcoming Queensland Home Brewing Conference.  To be held on Saturday, 05 November at the Southbank TAFE, Brewers Choice is organising a one-day conference loaded with beer, great food and of course some "talking heads"!  We will have representatives from at least three craft breweries covering topics on brewing great beers, using interesting ingredients and how to set up your own micro-brewery.  We will also have speakers from Hops Products Australia and Bintani, talking about new hops and grain products.  There will be plenty of craft beers on tap all through the day and a separate Food and Beer Dinner in the evening. We plan to also have a parallel program running for our spirits-inclined customers as well, so there will be plenty for every one.

Reserve the day on your calendar now, as tickets numbers will be limited and we are expecting interest from right across the state.  Stay tuned for more details in the following weeks.

Trip to Kooralbyn

Last Saturday, Debbie and David went down to Kooralbyn Valley to run a series of demos. Kooralbyn is about 1 hour's drive south from Brisbane in the middle of some beautiful countryside. Kooralbyn used to be the home of the 5-star Kooralbyn International Resort. Unfortunately, the resort has closed down leaving a large hole in Kooralbyn's economy and social life, and more importantly, leaving them with no PUB and the nearest bottle-o 20kms away! On hearing the dire situation down there, Debbie leapt into action and arranged for us to venture forth and teach the locals how to brew.

Making Sausages is Even Easier.

As part of the demos at Kooralbyn, I had to teach Sausage Making. Never having done this before, I thought I had better try it before hand. So Friday night saw me mixing seasonings and loading sausage guns. What I thought was going to be a long night was all done in very short time. Using a Sausage Gun made it very easy. And the best part was being able to cook them up and serve them at a dinner party on Saturday night. (It wasn't a very flash dinner party!!!). I was pretty proud to be serving great tasting, HOT Thai Chilli sausages, from our Gourmet Choice range, MADE BY ME!

For even easier sausage making, check out the new GONZO MkII - much bigger and works like an absolute treat. Tony, our resident fussy bugger when it comes to food, loves it. Check out what he has to say about it, by clicking below.

Brewers Choice Has Gone International

Well, sort of. You may have noticed the change in our newsletters. With the new software we are using, we are able to see where our newsletter is being read. And what a surprise - Brewers Choice has gone international, without us even knowing. So, many thanks to Alan in Florida, Terry in Muscat, Don in Morocco, Norman in Congo, Zach in Turkey, Ellen in Riyadh, David in Singapore, Ryan in Shanghai and all our other readers in New Zealand, Germany, England, Florida, Philippines, Ontario, Bogota, Monte Video, Buenos Aires, and Hanoi.

We would love to hear from you about your travels, home brew stores in your area, and bars and breweries you have visited (though Ellen may not be able to contribute a great deal on public drinking venues in Riyadh!).
Just email me, and include some photos, at duncan@brewerschoice.com.au or drop us a line on our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/brewerschoice) and we will include your stories in an upcoming newsletter.
