As you have no doubt heard, there have been several criminal incidents in the Preston Community over the past few days. In two case a vehicle was stolen and several other vehicles had valuables taken from them. In both of the stolen car cases the vehicles were recovered by Police and returned to their owners - in one case before the owner was even aware that the car had been stolen.
I have spoken to the Police and St. Moritz Security and in both stolen vehicle cases the owners had left their ignition key-fob in the vehicle. And in each of the cases where valuables were taken, the vehicles had been parked and left unlocked by the owner. Simply put these were crimes of opportunity that could have been prevented if valuables were removed and the vehicle's doors were locked.
Our Palm Beach Gardens Police are actively working on these cases and looking to identify and arrest the criminals as quickly as possible. Vehicle burglaries and thefts are on the increase in the region and the Police need our help in reducing the opportunities for these criminals to steal your property. Criminals are looking for an easy opportunity and are typically skipping vehicles they find locked and with no valuables visible.
I was asked today whether the Eagleton Communities are exposed. The simple answer is that everyone, everywhere, at all times, is exposed to criminal activity. However, there are several ways to reduce your vulnerability.
Please make it a habit to lock your car and take the car-fob into the house. Don't leave valuable items such as guns, jewelry, and electronics in the vehicle, and of course, always lock your car!
Similarly please be sure to lock your house and set the alarm when you are away, as well as overnight.
These actions will reduce the likelihood of you being a victim of crime.
The Palm Beach Gardens Police as well as St. Moritz Security are being very proactive, increasing their patrols and making additional changes - but they also rely on you and I to assist by not providing an opportunity for criminal activity. And as the saying goes… if you see something, or your Ring doorbell or other similar device sees something, say something!
Alert the police if you see a suspicious person or something that is outside of what you normally see in your community. The Palm Beach Gardens Police Department’s non-emergency phone number is 561-799-4445. The police dispatcher will take all of the information from you and send a police officer to investigate the incident.
Thank you.
