All About the Lashes!

Do I think well-groomed lashes make your face looks more beautiful? The answer is YES, everyone can benefit from an eyelash perm! It makes the most out of your own lashes, allows your eyes to stand out, and it saves you time on your makeup routine.

Eyelash perming is a simple procedure that permanently curls the eyelashes upward. This creates a look of youth and eliminates the need for daily eyelash curling.  The procedure takes between 35 to 45 minutes on average, from beginning to end. The perm generally lasts as long as the eyelashes are there, and a typical cycle for eyelashes is about three months. However, with the help of LATISSE, they will probably last longer.

Eyelash perming can make your eyes look rounder and more youthful looking. For women who are experiencing drooping eyelids, curled eyelashes will create a more awake appearance and can make them look younger. For extremely straight eyelashes, perming eliminates the need to use an eyelash curler on a daily basis. Depending on the natural darkness of an individual's eyelashes, perming them can eliminate the need for mascara entirely. If your lashes are too thin, we also offer eyelash tint to add extra drama.

Prepping your skin for the summer heat

By: Kendall Key, PA-C

As we are transitioning from the dry, cool winter months, to those that are more humid and warm, its important to take a look at the products we are using every day and make sure they are helping to make our skin as best as possible for summer.

Moisturizers that are good for winter skin likely contain urea and glycerol. These ingredients can make you much sweatier and can lead to breakouts in the summer. Switch to a moisturizer that is lightweight and likely to hydrate without clogging pores. SkinMedica's HA5 is the perfect option for this summer. It glides on with a silicone feel and keeps you moisturized all day long.

To fight off those summer breakouts, you may want to switch to a powder based makeup versus the traditionally liquid foundations. Many of these powders now have a protective sunscreen factor helping you to prevent discoloration and sun damage. Another approach is in your sunscreen. Zinc based sunscreens are great for every skin type, but especially those prone to breakouts. Zinc is a great ingredient to help reduce oil and give you more of a matte finish. Obagi Matte sunscreen is my go-to this time of year as it gives a matte finish that still looks good under makeup.

Last, but certainly not least, is drink plenty of water. Water is not only going to help keep your energy level up for all of your summer activities, but it is also going to help keep your skin vibrant and help it to heal better. It is recommended to drink half your weight in ounces per day. (example: if you weigh 160 lbs you would drink 80 ounces of water per day.) Plus....this will help you look fit in your bathing suit :)

Taylor's Story: Dealing with Thinning Hair

Last month, we told you about our new treatment, Scalp Micro Pigmentation (read article here). Scalp Micro Pigmentation (SMP) is an advanced procedure where pigment is used to create the idea of a fuller head of hair. It involves tattooing tiny, colored pigments into the hair follicles of the scalp. Ideal for men and women with thinning hair, SMP has been beneficial for people diagnosed with alopecia .

Our DermaPen and PRP treatment has also helped stimulate hair growth. The DermaPen stimulates scalp cells and hair follicles. PRP uses growth factors from platelet rich plasma to activate the hair root, improving hair quality.

Randi Saunders, a Licensed Permanent Makeup Technician here at Hull Aesthetics, has been treating 28 year old Taylor. She has been experiencing hair loss for a while, and Randi has been treating her using the DermaPen with PRP. We will be following Taylor's journey to see her experience and her results.

"I've dealt with hair loss for over 10 years now. I have tried everything from creams to shampoos, conditioners, vitamins, mousses, and sprays. I even had a scalp biopsy done to try and solve the underlining issue, but nothing worked. Doctors have yet to figure out why I had and have hair loss but I believe it is because I had undetected thyroid issues.

I am super excited to start a new, innovative process that uses my own healing cells to restart my hair growth! The vitamin is easy to swallow and twice a day is not hard to do. As for the scalp oil that I apply twice a day, it actually feels nice on my head and is not oily at all! It can be a little uncomfortable, but overall an easily tolerated treatment process. As a hair stylist dealing with this myself, this experience has helped me to connect with all my guests that deal with the same issue. Now I have a place to send them to try something new! I am excited and looking towards results! " - Taylor

Inside our products: A look at SkinCeuticals and the Hull Aesthetics lines

By: Jennifer Yount, Licensed Medical Aesthetician

Skinceuticals is a skin care line that was born from years of skin cancer research.  Many know the line for it's focus on Vitamin C and protection/correction from damaging sun exposure.  It also is a very preventative line and helps patients not only get optimal results with their skin but also maintain them.

One of my favorite niche products (among many fantastic ones) is the A.G.E. Interrupter.  You see, as we age, hormonal factors, and perhaps years in the sun, causes the skin to lose its youthful glow.  A.G.E. improves the appearance of skin creping and thinning and also reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while also restoring water and nutrients to the skin.  It really delivers and it has a very loyal following! It's also great to note this same amazing formulation is also available specifically for the eye area - A.G.E. Eye Complex.  All and all, this line is very versatile as they certainly have a product for everyone!

The Hull brand of skin care is also very popular here at Hull Aesthetics. This line is straight forward and very no-nonsense.  It has one of my very favorite foaming cleansers, Lactifoam, which is fantastic at providing a very deep clean but not over drying or stripping the skin of hydration.  Many love the Derm Brightening cream for it's retinol and brighteners to effectively lighten brown pigmentation.  This line is also fantastic for very sensitive skin and a favorite among many as it has a calming cleanser and other creams to calm, soothe and hydrate sensitive skin or skin that is in a post procedure phase.  They do not have a lot of fragrance and additives for those they may be sensitive to those things as well.

At Hull Aesthetics we can help customize your skin care routine.  Warmer weather is just around the corner and it is a perfect time of year to fine tune your skin care regimen.

Hezell has a Hull Lotta Love for Latisse!

It's been a while since we have seen the eyelashes taking the front stage with makeup, Beautiful, long lashes definitely help us look younger. This is why I am a big believer of incorporating Latisse in our beauty routine, not only as a temporary fix to improve the look of our lashes, but also as a long term commitment to our beauty.

Most women tend to feel insecure without mascara because without it, eyes lose expression. Fortunately, with the help of Latisse, that can change!  Latisse lengthens, thickens, and darkens eyelashes. The growth is gradual and takes place over time. Latisse users may start to see some results at 8 weeks and full results can usually be seen at 12 to 16 weeks.

Ready to have beautiful, lush lashes? Come talk to us about how Latisse can change your makeup game!
