CPC Celebrates the Grand Opening of CPC One, a New Community Hub on the Lower East Side On April 12th, CPC announced the grand opening of CPC One, a new intergenerational mixed-use development nestled in the heart of the Lower East Side. The new building houses CPC’s Manhattan Community Center across three floors, includes over 200 units of affordable housing, and serves as the headquarters for over 50 programs across New York City. In addition to a community center and affordable housing, the project includes the cultural heritage center of the Beth Hamedrash Hagodol Synagogue, one of New York City’s oldest synagogues which was destroyed by a fire in 2017. Tony Chong Graduates from PASE's Non-profit Management Course Tony Chong, Program Director for the CPC Queens Summer Youth Employment Program completed the Emerging Leaders in Non-profit Management Course. His capstone project focused on exploring the vital link between development and programmatic teams within non-profit organizations. He will now be part of an alumni network of over 330 Emerging Leaders graduates.
CPC Chinese Child Care Providers Receive the CDA Credential CPC Early Childhood Learning and Wellness Services (ECLW) celebrated with nine Chinese-speaking family child care providers who earned their Child Development Associate (CDA) credential in early childhood education. Since the Fall of 2017, ECLW has facilitated six cohorts of CDA training in Mandarin, providing support, training, and resources to our child care providers. FAMILY SUPPORTWe make it easier for individuals and families to access personalized social resources because support is fundamental at every age.
Undo Poverty: Flushing Highlights Achievements On April 3rd, the Undo Poverty: Flushing collaborative shared accomplishments and insights gained over the past four years. The group, which includes CPC, aimed to debunk stigmas of poverty in Flushing and identify pathways towards economic mobility. Since 2019, the coalition has worked with various community groups, launched an awareness campaign, and made a documentary film spotlighting stories of Flushing residents. Representatives from the offices of State Senator John Liu and City Council Member Sandra Ung also joined the event.
CPC FAIR Unveils New York AAPI Special Needs Survey Results CPC Families Advocating for Individuals’ Rights (FAIR), a parent-led initiative that advocates for AAPI individuals living with developmental disabilities, announced the findings of the New York Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Special Needs Survey at the Queens Public Library in Flushing. CPC FAIR received 227 survey responses that shed light on the challenges faced by individuals with developmental disabilities and their caregivers. Among these challenges are obstacles to accessing homecare, transportation support, public assistance, and benefits. We engage with individuals to plan and develop their career paths because professional success is critical for economic independence. CPC Statement on the New York State FY 24-25 Enacted Budget CPC acknowledges the passage of New York State's FY25 $237 billion budget that makes some key investments into Asian American and Pacific Islander, immigrant, and low-income communities. However, the budget fails to make deep investments that meet the immediate, growing, and long-term needs of our most marginalized communities, and failed to address the root causes of housing crises as well as the home care workforce shortage.
CPC Hosts Natalie Leung of Teach for Hong Kong for Month-long Exchange Program CPC hosted Natalie Leung, Co-Executive Director of Teach for Hong Kong, for a month-long experience from March to April. She gained insights into CPC’s diverse programs, including education initiatives, advocacy efforts, and development work. As part of the global Teach for All network spanning 60+ countries, "Teach for Hong Kong" aims to address the educational inequity caused by socioeconomic status.
CPC Presents the Advocacy Advisory Council Report CPC is excited to present our Advocacy Advisory Council (AAC) Report. This report showcases the accomplishments of the 2022-2023 cohort of AAC Members. The AAC is a group of dedicated, frontline staff at CPC who are committed to empowering their colleagues and community members through advocacy. Throughout their term, members expand CPC’s advocacy and organizing efforts, lead advocacy campaigns, and gain crucial skills to be effective advocates.
Carlyn Cowen Named to City & State's Who's Who in Government Relations List Carlyn Cowen, CPC's Chief Policy and Public Affairs Officer, was recognized in City and State's 2024 Who’s Who in Government Relations list. The list highlights key individuals who are shaping policies that affect New Yorkers. Carlyn helped secure a 3% annual cost-of-living adjustment for human services workers, $30 million in state funding for the AAPI community, and increased wages for home care workers.
