Helping to enhance the safety of Juno Beach ![]() May 1, 2025 - Volume 8 Number 8 Ocean Trace Hosts "Pizza with the Police" On April 16th, residents of Ocean Trace gathered for an evening of conversation, connection, and community during the latest Pizza with the Police event. Supported by the Juno Beach Police Foundation and originally proposed by Mayor Peggy Wheeler, this initiative brings residents and law enforcement together in a relaxed, informal setting over pizza and open dialogue.
Chief of Police Brian Smith offered attendees an informative overview of department initiatives, giving insight into ongoing efforts to protect and serve the Juno Beach community. His presentation highlighted the department's priorities and allowed residents to better understand local public safety strategies. Police Foundation President Tom Murphy thanked residents for their ongoing support and emphasized how donations help fund vital resources such as advanced technology, Officer training, and community outreach programs like this one. He also spotlighted recent Foundation-sponsored efforts including the Mature Driver course, the Security and Safety Conference, and ShredFest - many held in partnership with the Juno Beach Civic Association. After the presentation, attendees participated in a casual meet-and-greet with members of the Police Department, Police Volunteers, Police Foundation representatives, Mayor Wheeler, and Town Council members. Residents asked questions, voiced concerns, and shared ideas - making for a meaningful and collaborative evening. And as always, the conversation was made even better with fresh pizza from a local restaurant and funded by the Police Foundation. The event reflected a strong spirit of community engagement. Police Foundation Hold Annual Meeting The Juno Beach Police Foundation recently held its Annual Meeting, bringing together board members and supporters to reflect on the year's accomplishments and plan for the future. A key highlight of the meeting was the reelection of several board members and advisors whose terms were expiring, ensuring continuity in leadership and vision.
This group brings a wealth of experience and dedication to the Foundation's mission of supporting the Juno Beach Police Department through funding for critical equipment, specialized training, and community outreach programs. Their collective leadership will help guide the organization through another impactful year. Two successful events - all in one day April 26, 2025 was a busy and productive day for the Juno Beach Police Foundation as it proudly supported two important community events. The morning began with the Police Department's Semiannual Drug Take Back event, held in partnership with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). The initiative offers a safe, convenient, and responsible way to dispose of unused or expired prescription medications, while also raising awareness about the risks of medication misuse. Police volunteers, under the supervision of a sworn Police Officer, collected approximately 20 pounds of prescription drugs from local residents. As a small token of appreciation for helping protect both themselves and the broader community, the Police Foundation distributed pocket-sized hand sanitizer bottles to those who dropped off medications. At the same time, at the nearby Pelican Lake, the Police Foundation helped sponsor the Juno Beach Ecology Group's "Tilapia & Cichlid" Youth Fishing Contest. Dozens of young anglers participated, enjoying hours of fishing and friendly competition. Several participants received prizes for their catches, and each was given a backpack courtesy of the Police Foundation. Along with the bag came an encouraging message: make smart choices, stay drug-free, and stay on course - like a good angler who knows where to cast and when to steer clear of trouble.
