Our school year is off to a great start!
As you enter the building, you can feel the amazing energy and excitement that our students feel every day when they come here to learn and grow. After the summer, it was wonderful to come together again as a school, welcoming new faces and greeting old friends.
As the incoming President, I am feeling very positive about the year ahead of us and the future of our school generally. Meeting with Jennifer and her team of educators and hearing about all the new innovative learning initiatives in place, I am confident that our students are receiving exactly what they need to thrive and succeed, in an approach that is unique to Akiva School.
From a governance perspective, our school is strong and well positioned for the future. Earlier this month, I had the opportunity to spend a day long retreat with my fellow Board members where we fine-tuned our strategic focus and priorities for the school. I am grateful to have such a dedicated and exceptional team of forward thinkers to work with, engaged and energized, for the school year to come.
The first couple of weeks have flown by and Rosh Hashanah and the High Holidays are now upon us. The Torah portion for this Shabbat before Rosh Hashanah, Nitzavim, begins with the words: “You are all standing this day before the Lord, your God: the leaders of your tribes, your elders and your officers — every person of Israel.” The idea behind these words is that, as we head into Rosh Hashanah, we come together as a community to contemplate a strong new year ahead.
Community is an incredibly important part of what makes Akiva School so special. Our school is built on relationships, between students, parents, teachers, grandparents and the extended community at large. Community is our strength and our foundation for the future. I’m proud to say that we have an amazing community here at Akiva and I know that, together, we will all help ensure that our school stays strong, our children stay happy and that this new year is a great success.
Wishing everyone in our Akiva community a sweet and healthy new year.
