Radio Spectrum Management Compliance Guide Update

An updated version of the Radio Spectrum Management Compliance Guide has been posted on the RSM web site.

What is this guide?

RSM has produced this Compliance Guide to give radio spectrum users and suppliers of electrical and radio products information about:

  • compliance requirements
  • compliance audits
  • enforcement.

Use of the information in the Compliance Guide will help compliance with regulatory requirements, prevent enforcement action and contribute to a clean and useful radio spectrum.

Who should read it?

  • Radio and spectrum licence holders
  • Suppliers of radio, electrical and electronic equipment
  • Industry and government bodies with an operational or policy interest in the radio spectrum

The information in the Compliance Guide is current as at September 2020 and is intended to be used in conjunction with the RSM website. No information in the Compliance Guide overrides or replaces any requirement specified by the Radiocommunications Act 1989, the Radiocommunications Regulations 2001, or Gazetted notices made under authority of that legislation.

Beware the Illegal Two-Way Radio

Radio Spectrum Management has produced an information leaflet regarding unrestricted two-way radios. The leaflet can be downloaded on the Radio Spectrum Management website under “Products and equipment you can’t use in New Zealand”.

This is part of an ongoing campaign to stop people from using prohibited equipment in particular unrestricted two way radios

Call for expressions of interest in FM sound broadcasting licences

Applications have been received for the following FM broadcasting spectrum licences:

  • Otematata (Waitaki District) 94.9 MHz, licence ID 221403, reserve price: $1,150 incl. GST.
  • Otematata (Waitaki District) 106.1 MHz, licence ID 221404, reserve price: $1,150 incl. GST.

Following this, a decision will be made to determine if the licences can be allocated by direct sale or by a competitive allocation process.

Managed Spectrum Park Applications

Applications have been received for radio spectrum licences in the 2.5/2.6 GHz Managed Spectrum Park (MSP) band.  Potential uses for this spectrum include wireless broadband services.

Since November 2010, parties interested in utilising this spectrum have been able to apply for access on a first-come, first-served basis, but with sharing processes required to be negotiated by applicants.

Following registration of changes to licences that affected park occupancy, RSM has now resumed the application process for licences competing with the Compass Communications Managed Spectrum Park licences originally announced in Notice 65, covering parts of the Auckland City territorial local authority (TLA) area.

Additional applications from Compass Communications Limited have been received for Managed Spectrum Park licences covering parts of the Auckland City territorial local authority (TLA) area.
