The Countdown is on For Pin Oak 2015

The 70th Pin Oak Charity Horse Show is drawing near and all are looking forward to a special year. We are most excited to celebrate our milestone year with our exhibitors, spectators, volunteers and sponsors, including title sponsors Haras Dos Cavaleiros and Irish Day Farm.

General Manager Phil DeVita is looking forward to The Pin Oak Charity Horse Show’s 70th year and expects the competition to be better than ever. As the centerpiece of Midwest horse showing for decades, Pin Oak continues to draw competitors from throughout the country and received a coveted United States Equestrian Federation Heritage Horse Show designation.

“We put up 60 more stalls than last year and have been oversold for two weeks,” he said. “There’s literally not one empty stall in the place. I think it’s great that the local area, state of Texas and the surrounding states have supported Pin Oak so strongly.”

DeVita expects more than 850 horses to show, with competitors traveling to Katy from coast-to-coast, including Susie Schoellkopf of SBS Farms, Inc., in New York and Hope Glynn from California, just to name two. In addition, a group of riders from Mexico will attend the show, the first time they’ve traveled to Pin Oak in several years.

DeVita, of Apopka, Florida, has been a fan of the Pin Oak show since he was a junior rider. He began competing at Pin Oak in 1977 and has regularly attended since then, with the past four years as general manager.

“I couldn’t be happier with how things are,” he said. “We’re missing a few barns from last year, but as far as the competition I don’t think it will make an iota of difference. We have many who have replaced them. The competition is going to be at the highest level ever. We’re fortunate and blessed to have so many here who will join us, and I think we’ll have two great weeks of horse shows. I’m truly happy.”

Breed Show Manager Peter Fenton, of Pleasureville, Kentucky, also expects this year’s competitions in American Saddlebreds, Andalusians and Working Equitation to be better than ever.

“From our perspective, it’s very exciting,” said Fenton. “We’re oversold with stalls and demand has been great. Pin Oak has always been one of the nicest and most traditional shows in the United States. I’m a strong believer in the multi-breed horse show, and the interest and the size of these shows has grown. This is a perfect example.”

Fenton estimated he’s been working at Pin Oak for 18 years and said it’s one of his favorite shows. He’s been fortunate to work with a variety of historical competitions, including the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair (Pennsylvania) and the Roanoke Valley Horse Show (Virginia) that have been around a long time and also feature multiple breeds and disciplines.

“The tradition and history here is very special,” he said of Pin Oak. “Back in the day, some of the best Saddle Horses our breed has ever known made Pin Oak an annual stop and a very competitive one. Our numbers are up this year significantly, and we’re pumped and ready for a great year.”

We extend special thanks to our 2015 Title Sponsors:

WEEK I TITLE SPONSORS

We are thankful to our returning Week I Title Sponsors.  For two years in a row, Haras Dos Cavaleiros and Carnan Properites, have come together in support of Pin Oak. WEEK II TITLE SPONSORS

It has been the good luck of Pin Oak to have Irish Day Farm as a Title Sponsor for three consecutive years. The owners, Katie Lambert Boone and Hans Boone, and the clients of IDF have joined forces to make it a three-peat in their support of the Pin Oak Charity Horse Show and the charities we benefit.
