Lazy, hazy, days of summer

This summer is turning out to be one to remember - we have had fabulous weather and guests have been heading to our wonderful local beaches. Our beach equipment sheds have been emptied of barbeques, crab lines and buckets and spades and there are some super tans on show! It's been a great season for wildlife too - the first brood of swallows have fledged and baby birds abound here at Bosinver.

The weather has meant that guests have been able to make the most too of our our newly refurbished tennis court  and rope swing (details below) and get out to enjoy some of the fantastic events on in Cornwall - don't forget to check out the What's On section at the end of this newsletter for forthcomng events.

Swing out sister (and brother!)

We've long been wanting to put in a rope swing at Bosinver - who doesn't remember having a go on one in the local park or near a stream as a kid?  We finally found a great location for one - near the pony field/new Wild Kids hut and it is proving really popular with the children, as eagerly demonstated by young Connor here.

Another enhancement for older children is our games court - in addition to resurfacing the tennis court, we've also added new lines and net for short tennis, plus we now have equipment for a game of netball - just ask in the office to borrow it.

The new Wild Kids hut has gone down a storm and was used for a session for the first time last week, when a thunder shower temporarily broke the weather. Everyone agrees it is a great addition to Bosinver and we have some interesting plans for its use in future - watch this space!

For now though we'd like to announce that we have decided to call it the Wild Kids Hudel Hut - a suggestion made by Rozelle Faulkner because 'Hudel' is Cornish for magical - and also its where we'll go to huddle if the weather isn't so great! Well done Rozelle, we love it! We hope you enjoy the nature book we have sent you as a prize.

Reviews and Cornwall Today reminder

We would just like to thank again all those guests who have taken the time to write reviews for us - we have had some truly wonderful reviews lately on Tripadvisor and Mumsnet.  It may seem like we already have a lot of reviews, but each really one does make a difference to our business, as they have to be current when we are assesed for award schemes such as the Cornwall Tourism Awards.

And talking of awards, voting is still open for the Cornwall Today awards in which we are shortlisted for Best Small Accommodation.  If you haven't already voted for us, then please do - its only takes a minute and as the awards will be made to those who receive the most votes, your vote really could make a difference. Here's a link for voting. Thank you!

School holidays and activities

So, the school holidays are finally here! For those guests who will be joining us in that period we'll be running additional Wild Kids sessions for older chilldren with the wonderful Tatum Triggs and even an art workshop with local artist Jeanni.

It's worth mentioning too that there are some wonderful activities on offer nearby - Active 8 run outdoor adventure sessions from nearby Porthpean (07979 8535454), and several companies offer canoeing trips from Fowey, Falmouth and St Agnes, wildlife trips (AK Wildlife Cruises), boat hire (from Mylor, Fowey, Falmouth and Helford Passage) plus sailing and surf lessons and even pony trekking.

These activities come highly recommended but please do book ahead as spaces during the school holidays are greatly in demand. The same can be said of our cottages - August 2014 has been booked solid for months and the school holidays in 2015 are filling up quickly already so please do book in advance if you want to avoid disappointment.

The Government's school holiday ruling has only added extra pressure to these in demand dates and as an established holiday provider Pat was recently interviewed by Radio Cornwall on the subject. As Pat said 'we would love to have less pressure on the 6 weeks of summer holidays, Whitsun and Easter - it would be to everyone's benefit if holidays could be staggered and result in bookings throughout a longer season, with a more even price banding'. Let's hope a more sensible position can be achieved soon.
