People + Culture Strategies: Your Partners in Workplace Law

15 January 2013

Welcome to 2013!

On behalf of the PCS Team, I would like to extend our best wishes to you for the year ahead.

This note addresses some important aspects of PCS’ services to you and I encourage you to take the time to review it.

1.  Additions to Team

As many of you are already aware, Greg Harrison (one of the longest-serving members of the AIRC and FWA) has joined PCS as a Consultant working two days per week. Greg’s biographical information can be accessed through the Team page on our website.  The addition of Greg to our team consolidates our firm’s status not just as a leading law firm in employment and culture matters but also in industrial relations and change management.

We also announce with great pleasure that Kirryn James (nee West) has been promoted to a Senior Associate. Kirryn has been a founding member of PCS and has been involved in some of our firm’s milestone achievements, particularly in litigation.

We also welcome Corinne Ozols as our Administration Manager. Part of Corinne’s role is to ensure that PCS is true to its principle of delivering a unique customer experience for its clients and I encourage you to contact Corinne if you feel there is anything we can do to better our service delivery to you.

An updated fee schedule reflecting our current team members and their charge rates is attached. Our hourly rates remain extremely competitive.

As always, I would strongly encourage those of you who have not taken up one of our Partnership Packages to consider doing so as it will allow your organisation to:

  • reduce its spend on employment-related legal costs;
  • shift its decision-making and approach to problem-solving on staffing matters to a proactive rather than a reactive one (knowing you are supported by our firm); and
  • avail itself of best practice strategies and solutions.

2.  Schedule of Events

At PCS we are very proud of our events program in which we invest a considerable amount of resources. Once again, our webinar series has been formulated with a view to being topical and cutting-edge. Our 'By Invitation Only' face-to-face events in May and November are sure to be well-attended, building on the resounding success of our Hypothetical held in November last year.

Importantly, we would encourage you to consider sending some of your HR team members to our 'Legal Basics for Emerging HR Professionals' course which, while primarily targeted to more junior HR professionals, is equally suitable as a refresher for more seasoned HR leaders and is an excellent program for line managers with people management responsibilities.

While all our webinars are complimentary to current PCS clients, to celebrate our recognition as Australia’s fastest-growing law firm in 2012, our first webinar 'Regulating Out-of-Hours Conduct: what's next?' (being held on 13 February 2013) will be complimentary to all participants. If you have friends or colleagues in other organisations who you feel might benefit from participating in this webinar or being exposed to our firm’s service offering, please let us know or have them contact Corinne.

You may also want to ensure that all members of your organisation’s in-house legal team are aware of our events as they are a convenient and interesting way for lawyers to secure MCLE points.

Registering for any of our events is simple: just go to the Events page on our website peopleculture.com.au.

The 2013 PCS Schedule of Events is attached.

3.  Change of Address

We have now settled in to our new offices which are conveniently located at NAB House, 255 George Street. It would be our pleasure to show you around our new fitout when you next visit.

If you would like to have an off-site day at our offices as part of which we can tailor one of our published events for your HR team, in-house legal team or senior leaders, please let us know as this is something we regularly do for our clients.

4.  Social Media

PCS now has a YouTube channel 'peopleculture' on which you will find numerous interviews I have done on a wide range of topics.

We intend to continue to utilise all forms of relevant social media to keep you, our valued clients, across key developments in what is shaping up to be a big year in workplace relations.
