Hi there,

The ACCC has released its preliminary Digital Platforms Inquiry report, which is looking at ways to monitor – and curb – the power of digital platforms like Google and Facebook. The report should send a shudder through Google, Facebook, et al, but one suspects it's now just business as usual as the behemoths stare down yet another nation grappling with the issue.

Expect it to be game on in 2019, as the ACCC and its global equivalents bare their teeth considering options (likely led by the EU with its A$6.8b fine of Google already notched up).

In other news this week:

  • IT at odds with business on value of data
  • Australian Space Agency gets a home as Kiwis launch for NASA
  • Data republicans attract interest from new data economy
  • One for the Xmas reading list: ACS puts out hitchhiker's guide to the biggest thing since the internet

With integration across internal, partners, suppliers and customers’ systems a key source of efficiency, middleware is in the limelight. If you've got an API New Year in your sights (sorry!), this white paper will help evaluate the benefits of a middleware solution in your business. It comes courtesy of Flow Software, and provides a framework to assess and justify your middleware investment.

Wishing everyone much merriness in your office Xmas celebrations. A word of warning – don't drink and post!

Enjoy,
