Welcome!

Welcome to July’s issue of the Cracking Ideas newsletter! Believe it or not, the peak of British Summertime is upon us, and so this month we invite you to get innovative and start thinking of summer-related cracking ideas.

What is Innovation?

What is Innovation?

Some people think that being innovative means creating a space-age gizmo that nobody has seen before, but actually people forget it can also be finding a solution to an everyday problem.

Take Wallace & Gromit for example, this innovative duo identify a problem in their surroundings and then set about creating a solution. Remember the Techno Trousers, designed to alleviate the daily chore of taking Gromit for walkies? And who could forget the Bun Vac 6000 employed by Anti Pesto, Wallace and Gromit’s pest control business, to clear Lady Tottington’s lawn of the ever-persistent bunnies?!

Cracking Summer Ideas

We can follow in Wallace & Gromit’s footsteps by looking around us and identifying the problem which has traditionally ‘got on our nerves’ and then set about sorting it out! Why not use the traditions of a typical British summer as the inspiration you need to enter this year’s Cracking Ideas competition?

What eccentric gadget would Wallace and Gromit develop to alleviate the problem of rain and mud at the summer music festivals? Could they develop a new-fangled bat to ensure that the English Cricket Team win the Ashes? Or perhaps the innovative pair’s new business could comprise a wacky fruit picking machine which then serves up strawberries and cream at the Henley Regatta or next year’s Wimbledon Tennis Championship?  Visit the Cracking Ideas website for more information and activity packs to get you started.

Have You Tried a Eureka Challenge?

Have You Tried a Eureka Challenge?

Talking of wacky ideas and amazing creativity – congratulations to Haemo who scooped the prize for June’s ‘Create a Puppet Show’ Eureka Challenge.

The entry entitled ‘The Orphan’s Puppet Show’ wins Haemo a signed copy of the pop-up book, ‘Wallace & Gromit: Grand Adventures & Glorious Inventions’.  Well done to everyone who took part - there were some fantastic entries!

Feeling inspired by last month's winners?  Why not take part in this month’s ‘Design a Wonder Bar’ challenge and have a go at designing your own snack bar, including ingredients, packaging and logo!

To get started, download a free Eureka Challenge pack and get creative - good luck!

‘Til next month, take care, and enjoy the eccentricities and traditions of British summertime and see if any of them inspire you to be innovative and come up with an idea for Wallace and Gromit’s next business venture.
