Strategic planning for 2017 – 2021 kicked off Aug. 30 with a 40-person team of faculty, staff, students and community members. This semester the vision and mission statements have been revised, and five aspirational goals have been developed.
At this point in the process, the Strategic Planning Team needs your feedback. Please
review the vision and mission statements, and the draft goals (PDF). Share your input now by emailing feedback to Marrissa Alexander. Feedback will also be collected at a Strategic Planning Open Forum from 3 – 5 p.m. Feb. 1 in the Dengerink Administration Building, Room 129.
The work is not done! The Strategic Planning Team will refine the goals based on your feedback and is working on corresponding objectives and strategies to complete the plan.
Enrollment management strategies in play
Last spring enrollment consultants SEM Works was hired and an Enrollment Task Force was formed to develop a five-year enrollment management plan. The final report
was delivered at the end of summer, and teams across campus are working to deliver on it.
Here are just a few examples of strategies that have already been implemented:
Management of the website is now centralized in Marketing and Communications
College and department websites have been edited to be
more marketing oriented and the entire website has been redesigned to be compatible with any device you view it from
Other small, but important changes have been made to the website to make the most-desired information readily accessible to prospective students
Recruitment materials for Spanish-speaking families have been created
New campaigns to recruit College Bound, Hispanic/Latino, veteran and former students who are eligible to return have been launched
Student Affairs staff have analyzed and streamlined the application review process
Admissions staff are now providing a hard copy of the Transfer Credit Report to all newly admitted transfer students
The Student Resource Center added a second section of the LEAPS class for fall semester
There is still a lot of work to do, and the entire campus community has a role to play in recruitment and retention to fulfill our mission of providing access to
higher education to the residents of Southwest Washington.
If you have any questions or suggestions, please contact the Enrollment Task Force co-chairs:
The Affordable Care Act requires everyone to carry health insurance. Benefit-eligible WSU employees have coverage through the Public Employees Benefits Board.
Employees who are not benefit eligible and do not have access to other coverage, may get coverage through the Washington Health Benefit Exchange. For those who apply for
coverage through the Exchange and are eligible for a tax credit to help subsidize the cost of the insurance, the Washington Health Benefit Exchange is required to notify WSU.
The WHBE notices
should be mailed to the Human Resource Services office in Pullman. However, many of the WHBE notices are being mailed to different offices and departments throughout WSU. The WHBE uses the employer address provided by the employee. If you are applying for coverage through the Exchange, please use this address for HRS, P.O. Box 641014, Pullman, WA 99164-1014. If you have received one of these notices
in your college/area, please forward it to HRS Pullman.
You may direct questions regarding the WHBE notices or the ACA to Ann Monroe or Niki Jones in the HRS Benefits Unit, at 509-335-4521 or hrs@wsu.edu.
Student Financial Services announces new team member

Jackie McReynolds to retire this year
After more than 20 years at WSU, Jackie McReynolds, one of the founding faculty of the human development undergraduate program, will retire at the end of this semester.
Jackie established the human development internship program, the faculty advising system, and taught a number of the core required and elective courses for the department.
She was a leader in creating the inter-departmental Personnel Psychology Human Resource Certificate, the Human Services Case Management and Administration Certificate, the WSU Vancouver Kappa Omicron Nu honorary society chapter, and the Student Veterans Center and club.
Throughout her career, Jackie has focused on advancing the opportunities and success of her students, and they love her for it. She received the 2001 Student’s Award for Teaching Excellence and consistently high teaching evaluations.
Jackie’s 15 years of campus
leadership within the advising faculty/staff was recognized in 2011/12 when she received three awards from the National Academic Advising Association: WSU, Region 8 and National Faculty Advisor of the Year.
Jackie’s advocacy for students is further exemplified by the establishment of human development’s first and only endowed scholarship. Funded in honor of her mother, the Maxine McReynolds Kirmaier Memorial Scholarship supports undergraduate, female students with a priority given to first-in-the-family college students. Her contributions to the university and community include service on more than 30 university committees, six community boards and 75 regional/state/national presentations primarily on
the impact of methamphetamine use on families.
