As part of the 'Tea Talk' series, CPC Brooklyn Community Services accompanied our seniors to the Brooklyn Botanical Garden and the Brooklyn Museum on October 1st. Tea Talk is a group counseling session where our community members meet with, chat, and provide feedback to our Geriatric Mental Health Initiative (GMHI) team over tea and refreshments as a strategy to combat isolation which can lead to a number of risks like anxiety and depression.
COMMUNITY AND ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT
CPC Early Childhood Learning and Wellness Services Program Successfully Begins 120-Hour CDA Courses in Chinese, English and Spanish CPC Early Childhood Learning and Wellness Services (CPC ECLW) is proud to announce the commencement of three new 120-hour Child Development Associate credential (CDA) courses in Chinese, English, and Spanish. CPC ECLW is presently the only organization that offers the 120-hour CDA course in Chinese.
CPC Welcomes Charles Do to the Board of Directors CPC warmly welcomes Charles Do to the Board of Directors. Mr. Do is a Managing Director and Head of Consumer Auto Lending at JPMorgan Chase & Co.
CPC announced that Marilla Li will be the Project Director for the Flushing Mobility LABs Initiative. Most recently, she served as Chief of Staff to New York State Assemblywoman Nily Rozic, with whom she built community and legislative efforts that improved the well-being and civic participation of key communities.
Celebrating Donors with a Special Musical Performance On October 8th, CPC hosted its 4th Annual Donor Appreciation Reception at the DiMenna Center for Classical Music. More than 80 donors and supporters gathered to learn about the impact of their giving as well as enjoy a special performance by mother-son pianist due Michelle Chen Kuo and Christopher Kuo.
CPC Attends Chinatown Vigil, Stands with Allies to Condemn Housing Crisis On October 5th, 2019, five community members experiencing homelessness were brutally attacked in Chinatown/Lower East Side while sleeping outside. Four of these community members lost their lives and one remains in critical condition. CPC denounces the dehumanization of New Yorkers who experience homelessness and the chronic lack of available low-income housing and mental health services.
CPC Brooklyn Community Services 40th Anniversary Dinner Gala 2019 On Thursday, October 17th, 2019, CPC Brooklyn Community Services celebrated its 40th Anniversary Dinner Gala at the Affable Eatery Restaurant. Four distinguished community members were honored this year for their tremendous service.
From parents engaged with the child welfare system, to individuals with special needs, and seniors seeking job opportunities, these stories demonstrate how education, family support, and community and economic empowerment advance and transform our communities.
CPC applauds news that a preliminary injunction was granted on the public charge rule on October 11th. The injunction represents a significant victory in our fight to block the cruel public charge proposal.
EDUCATION AND FAMILY SUPPORT
On October 24th, 2019, CPC Project Gateway coordinated a successful resume building workshop with Eva Lee, Market Director Trainee at JPMorgan Chase (JPMC), at CPC Queens Community Center. Sixteen high school students paired one-on-one with a JPMC volunteer to create a resume from scratch.
Everyone's a Star this Halloween! Halloween costumes on parade! All the children of our Early Childhood Centers came out in style this October 31st to scare up a good time. Thank you everyone for sharing your costumes and the spirit of this magical day with us!
CPC Brooklyn Community Services Special Needs Fruit Picking TripOn October 6th, CPC Brooklyn Community Services' Weekend Educational and Recreational Program for families with special needs organized a fruit picking trip to Evergreen Farm in New Jersey. This family trip connects community members while building confidence and self esteem.
Sterling Bancorp Announces SBT Advantage Bank Grant to CPC On October 21th, 2019, Sterling Bancorp, Inc. announced a $7,000 grant by the SBT Advantage Bank branch of Flushing to CPC. CPC accepted the check and were joined by students of CPC's After School Advancement Program (ASAP) at Queens High School for Language Studies.
