Art Direction Workshop with Beatriz Juarez

With a focus on Fashion and Beauty Shoots, Branding, Look Books, Magazine Launches, Fashion Collections and Campaigns - during this intensive weekend you'll develop a Fashion/Beauty Project using the key elements learned in the workshop.

About Beatriz Juarez:

Throughout her 18 year career, Beatriz has worked with renowned celebrities such as Taylor Swift, Janelle MonĂ¡e, Feist, Jessica Chastain, Ricky Martin, Rachel McAdams, Cobie Smulders, Sarah Gadon, Jan Arden, The National Ballet of Canada, The Mirvish Group, Mike Holmes, etc. She has also worked with top models (such as Coco Rocha, Heather Marks, Meghan Collison, Tara Gill), A-list Stylists (Anita Patrickson and Jonas Hallberg to name a few), international Makeup Artists (such as Sam McKnight, Kakuyashu Uchiide) and top fashion photographers (Raphael Mazzucco, Andrew Macpherson, Caitlin Cronenberg and Tess Feuilhade).  She has art directed and produced some of the best-selling issues and covers for the titles she's worked on.

The Super Awesome Zine Fair

Organized by OCADU students, Rosena Fung and Stephanie Kenzie, The Super Awesome Zine Fair features upcoming illustrators showing their work to the Toronto community in the spirit of super awesomeness! Zines have long been a means to share ideas; Super Awesome Zine Fair seeks to share local, compelling, and affordable art with the greater public. Come join us for a day of zines, art, and awesomeness!

Repeat Pattern Workshop (Part 1), with Jen Hsieh

Sunday October 27th

Join illustrator Jen Hsieh of Sorry You're Happy for an introduction to repeat patterns that will work for fabrics and other surfaces. During this class, learn how to create a repeat by designing and printing from your own lino block.

About Jen Hsieh:

Jen Hsieh is a Hamilton-based illustrator born in Taiwan and raised in Toronto, Canada. Jen's work has been awarded by American Illustration and Applied Arts. Her clients include New York Times, The Atlantic, Harvard Business Review, BC Business, GQ Taiwan, Visa, TBWA/Chiat/Day, Sick Kid's, The Pennsylvania Gazette, Victoria's Secret and Playgirl. She has lectured at the School of Visual Arts in New York. Jen's paintings have been exhibited in Toronto, Calgary and Hamilton.

She shares her studio and life with her husband, Kyle Reed, who is also her creative partner behind Sorry You're Happy, their art licensing and surface design studio.
Jen's enthusiasm for faces, fashion and family inspires her work and is often the subject matter of her personal pieces. She enjoys exploring culture, vintage and modern, through rich colours, patterns and subtle line work.
