After what can only be described as mock public outrage, the winning name in the vote for NERC' new polar research vessel has been reallocated to a remotely controlled submersible aboard the " RRS Sir David Attenborough", the fourth most popular choice in the public vote.

Twitter rumblings that the vessel would eventually be named "RRS Dictator Ship" were thankfully ignored.

Congratulations to Sir David Attenborough who celebrates his 90th birthday this week and to NERC on a fine choice on naming their newest vessel after a true British National Treasure.
