End-of-year Exhibitions
The much anticipated School of Art Graduate Exhibition opens on Monday 19 November, with a feast of drawing, prints, photography, sculpture, painting, screen-based and digital media. Simultaneously, the Production Graduate Exhibition
opens next door in the School of Performing Arts where the public can explore the skilful work that goes on behind the scenes in creative and backstage roles. A fortnight later the School of Art Masters Exhibitions, akin to 29 individual shows, will showcase both coursework and research students, celebrating the students’ artistic imagination, extensive theoretical knowledge and mastery of their practical skills.

Film and Television Graduate Screenings
7 - 16 December 2012
Catch a glimpse of the state’s best up and coming filmmakers when graduating students from the VCA’s School of Film and Television showcase their works on the big screens at ACMI over two weekends in December. The annual showcase of screenings represents an important time for these emerging filmmakers, prior to their exposure on the international festival circuit, and will demonstrate the creativity and powerful storytelling skills of a diverse student cohort.

Graduate Dance Season
8 - 15 November 2012
Graduating dance students and production students who have been studying under four Australian guest choreographers this semester are currently presenting their season works in Southbank. The choreographers include Larisa McGowan, Lina Limosani, Ben Hancock and Prue Lang. The program celebrates the virtuosity, artistry and energy of graduating dance students, marking the culmination of three years intensive training and their transition into the dance profession.

Writers’ Forum
15 - 18 November 2012
Presented by the first cohort of Master of Writing for Performance candidates, the Writers’ Forum presents seven ‘moved readings’ of extraordinary new works by Katy Warner, Tobias Manderson-Galvin, Glyn Roberts, Emilie Collyer, Wahibe Moussa, Nic Velissaris and Mari Lourey. This new Masters course, unique in Australia, pays particular attention to a new diversity of voices and cultures in Australian writing and aims is to give writers an opportunity to develop their skills in a unique laboratory context alongside other theatre makers.

VCA Clickers - a new film society
VCA Clickers, the new film society at the VCA, launches with a Premiere Screening of SIDE BY SIDE at Fed Hall on Thursday 15 November. The happy outcome of the ongoing collaboration between the School of Film and TV and Moggs Creek Moving Clickers, VCA Clickers is looking for film enthusiasts who enjoy the twists and turns of the movies that matter! Open membership is just $35, which covers 13 screenings a year. Join on the night for only $25 and you’ll also receive a fabulous VCA Clickers mini-torch to find your way down the aisle.

Wilin celebrates 10th Birthday
Since its establishment in 2002, The Wilin Centre for Indigenous Arts and Cultural Development has been a vibrant hub for Indigenous arts practice at the VCA & MCM. It now celebrates 10 years of fostering Indigenous cultural expression. The birthday celebrations will include a free concert at BMW Edge on Tuesday 27 November, featuring performances spanning across the generations and art forms; followed by an exhibition, at the nearby No Vacancy Gallery, of acclaimed Indigenous visual artists.

Spanish Music Symposium
This symposium titled “Spanish musics and their [Western] Others: Negotiating identity and exoticism”, takes place at the MCM from 7 - 8 December. It will bring together scholars from around the world to reflect on Spain’s unique position in the enactment of musical and cultural identity. The papers explore themes that span a range of periods, genres and musical styles, from opera and flamenco to dance and film, and encompass approaches including historical musicology, cultural studies and performance practice.

Community Cultural Development evening
Wednesday 14 November, 6pm – 7.30pm
Join Carmen Maddison and John Willis, Master of Community Cultural Development students at the VCA, as they explore the implications of the body in community practice and its implications for future practice. The evening also includes course information about the Master of Community Cultural Development and its new Graduate Certificate in Arts and Community Engagement. Presentations will be followed by refreshments and discussion with presenters and teaching staff.
Music Theatre information sessions in Sydney, Brisbane and Perth
12, 19 and 23 November
The VCA is holding inter-state information sessions for prospective students, parents and teachers to find out more about auditions, entry requirements and course content for the Bachelor of Fine Arts (Music Theatre). The Sydney session will also cover information about Bachelor of Fine Arts (Theatre Practice).
Sydney: Monday 12 November; Brisbane: Monday 19 November; Perth: Friday 23 November.
Robot & Frank
Set in the near future, Frank, a retired cat burglar, has two grown kids who are concerned he can no longer live alone. They are tempted to place him in a nursing home until Frank’s son chooses a different option: against his wishes, he buys Frank a walking, talking humanoid robot programmed to improve his physical and mental health. Pompeii, L.A.
Malthouse Theatre presents a spectacular tribute to Hollywood’s highs and lows. Declan Greene’s new play Pompeii, L.A. plummets into the anxieties and hysteria of silver screen culture, charting the course of a child star as his damaged young mind folds inwards and scrambles for an escape.
With plenty of alumni on stage and backstage, the VCA&MCM e-news has 3 double passes for the preview on Monday 19 November, 7.30pm.
