Hi there,

In Singapore, to log into government e-services you need to scan your fingerprint on your mobile. In Africa, one in three children under five don't formally exist.

Where do we want to sit on the dystopian spectrum – chipped at birth, or your mother's maiden name defining your nationhood?

Singapore is planning for its scheme to be a public service, offering industries such as banking and insurance open use of biometric authentication.

With the RealMe scheme falling short of expectations (in usage and usefulness), the Government has announced it will tip in over $5 million for research into digital identity.

There's no doubt the technology exists for 100 percent non-repudiation of identity, but is there the public acceptance and political will to deliver it?

In other news:

  • Marriott breach adds yet more imperative to Privacy Bill settings
  • 5G more expensive and delayed. Nice one GCSB
  • Yes Virginia, AI really is the CX Santa. AI proving its worth
  • First flush of success for IoT...in the bathroom

Xero's success has created a lake of data into which the company dives daily. We look at what it takes to migrate 59 billion records from an on-premise data warehouse to the AWS cloud and why the move has delivered massive value.

Where to now for 5G?

Definitely not cheaper and unlikely any more secure…

Spark 5G network

The big news in the telecommunications industry last week was Spark’s announcement that the GCSB has blocked them from using Huawei equipment in their proposed 5G network build.

IoT in the bathroom
