CPC STATEMENT ON CONTRACT AGREEMENT FOR EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATORS

New York, NY -- The Chinese-American Planning Council (CPC) applauds the tentative agreement reached by Mayor Bill de Blasio, Speaker Corey Johnson, District Council 37, District Council 1707, and the Day Care Council of New York, which creates a pathway to salary parity between early childhood educators in Community Based Organizations and under the Department of Education.

CPC looks forward to continuing to work with the City to ensure that all early childhood educators in New York City are adequately compensated, as this agreement does not create substantial increases for support staff, both teaching and non-teaching, as well as non-union staff.

“This labor agreement is a momentous victory for New York City’s children. By ensuring that our Community Based Organization early childhood educators- most of whom are women, people of color, and immigrants- are equitably compensated, we create the best possible early childhood development programs for our youngest New Yorkers. We are grateful to the Mayor, Speaker Corey Johnson, DC37, DC1707, the Day Care Council, and all of the advocates who have worked tirelessly to build this agreement, and look forward to continuing to work to ensure that all of our community-based early childhood staff achieve salary parity,” said Wayne Ho, President & CEO of CPC (the Chinese-American Planning Council).
