CPC's Annual Queens Special Needs Summer Picnic Strengthens Community Bonds and Drives Advocacy Efforts On August 19th, CPC hosted its annual Queens Special Needs Summer Picnic, bringing together over 300 staff and special-needs families for a fun-filled day of food, performances, and resources at the Queens Botanical Garden. The event also unveiled a survey designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the challenges faced by individuals living with developmental disabilities and their caregivers, with a specific focus on immigrant families residing in New York City, Long Island, and Westchester County. EDUCATIONWe provide high-quality learning opportunities for all ages—from Pre-K and after-school enrichment to adult English language classes—because education is lifelong.
CPC and NYC CCR&R Partners Host Family Resource Day for Parents and Children On August 5th, CPC Early Childhood Learning and Wellness Services and partners from the New York City Child Care Resource & Referral Consortium (NYC CCR&R) held a joint family resource day for families with children embarking on their kindergarten journey. Parents gained access to useful information and resources, including children’s books, while the young ones enjoyed face painting and games.
CPC Distributes 450 Literacy Backpacks Donated by KPMG's Family for Literacy On August 17th, CPC received a donation of 450 literacy backpacks from KPMG's Family for Literacy. The backpacks, which included children's books and supplies, were then distributed to the Baxter Street School-Age Child Care Center at PS 130. This donation not only equipped students with tools for learning but also strengthened the community's collective commitment to boosting children’s literacy development. CPC Brooklyn Older Adult Center Hosts Round Two of the 'Talent is Timeless’ Competition On August 9th, CPC Brooklyn Older Adult Center hosted the second round of the NYC Department for the Aging's 'Talent is Timeless' Competition. Performers from various centers throughout Brooklyn, including the Council of Peoples Organization and the Spanish Speaking Elderly Council-RAICES, came together to celebrate and showcase their dancing, singing, and performance skills.
CPC Nan Shan Senior Center's Talents Shine at Local Community Health Fair On August 12th, CPC Nan Shan Senior Center's Chinese Musical Ensemble team was invited to perform at the Good Health Day in Flushing, hosted by the Charles B. Wang Community Health Center. Staff from Early Childhood Learning and Wellness Services and Multi-Social Services also tabled in Flushing and Chinatown to offer information and brochures about our range of services. The fair featured free health screenings, educational activity booths, social services resources, and vital health insurance information. CPC and Synchrony Collaborate to Empower High School Students with Career Insights On August 1st, CPC partnered with Synchrony, a financial services company, for a career panel, giving high school students a glimpse into the company's career opportunities in project management, technology, and finance. In addition, the panelists offered guidance on essential career development skills such as crafting impactful resumes and excelling in interviews.
CPC Urges Work Authorization for Asylum Seekers at the New York Immigration Coalition's Press Conference On August 24th, Carlyn Cowen, CPC's Chief Policy and Public Affairs Officer, spoke at the press conference held by the New York Immigration Coalition. She urged the federal government to expand Temporary Protected Status for migrants inclusive of asylum seekers who have recently arrived, allowing them to obtain work authorization and contribute their skills and talents to New York’s workforce.
Wayne Ho Named to PolitcsNY & amNY Metro's Power Players in Diversity, Equity & Inclusion List Wayne Ho, CPC President and CEO, was recognized in the PolitcsNY & amNY Metro's Power Players in Diversity, Equity & Inclusion list. The list recognizes corporate, government, and non-profit leaders who actively create an environment where individuals from diverse backgrounds can make their voices heard, both in the workplace and with elected officials.
CPC Co-Sponsors Universal Hip-Hop Parade for Social Justice to Celebrate Hip-Hop's Anniversary On August 26th, CPC celebrated Hip-Hop's 50th Anniversary at the annual Universal Hip-Hop Parade for Social Justice in Brooklyn. As a co-sponsoring AAPI organization, CPC came together with a diverse range of communities, including African American, Caribbean, Arab, Muslim, LatinX communities, and others, to pay tribute to Hip-Hop's core elements: deejaying, rapping, graffiti painting, and break dancing.
