Sketching Ideas That Matter
at TEDxDocklands
Hi there! Now that we're more than a quarter of the way through 2019 (I know, scary, right?) how are you tracking with those New Year resolutions? Have you ticked any boxes yet?
I was able to tick one of my goals, graphically recording a TED event, off the list recently—on my birthday, of all days. I spent the day visualising all 12 of the presentations at the TEDxDocklands conference, so not only did I get to meet and chat with some inspiring speakers like Tiffiny Hall, Nick Bracks, and Rik Rushton, but I had the absolute privilege of capturing their talks for the audience. I'm really proud of how I captured the content, especially because so many of the talks contained such powerful stories and inspiring messages.
There's a selection of the canvases from the day here—we'll publish the rest on the Sketch Group website soon. Videos of all the talks are also now available online for free. There were some really great presentations, so be sure to check them out if you're looking for a dose of inspiration.
Translating Business into Visuals
Another highlight last month was collaborating with well-known performance coach and business adviser Mark Dobson for a morning session on Leading People & Business at the Royce Hotel in Melbourne.
I find sketching Mark's content quite easy to do because he is such a storyteller. Every principle, or concept, or tip is delivered with a memorable, evocative story behind it, which makes my job so much easier! And selfishly speaking, visualising content that is highly relevant to me personally (how to grow your business, lead your team, be more effective in business) is pretty fun too. If you're curious about what Mark does and how he helps businesses, be sure to check out his TED talk and read more about the services he offers on his website.
We've Moved Office:
Drop in and say hi!
After 5 or so years at Nest Coworking, we're excited about having moved our to a larger office—Sketch Group is now headquartered at Level 1, 206 Tyler Street, Preston. The room itself has a lovely feel to it, and we've brought our enormous whiteboard with us, so that we can still hold collaborative visualisation sessions with clients. There are a few other bonuses to the new space, however" - It's larger, which means we have room to hold training sessions (watch this space!) as well as store the Graphic Gear products we sell through our online store, making it much more convenient for us to fill orders than dashing down to the storage unit where it used
to live!
- It's above a piano bar! Entry is actually through the Ragtime Tavern, which is a wonderfully quirky bar that opened up around the same time that we moved in. Featuring local talented musicians and an eclectic collection of cocktails, we're pretty excited to have a default option for Friday night drinks so readily accessible!
Please swing by and say hello if you're in the area. We'd love to make you a cup of tea (we have a kettle now—hooray!) and give you a tour.
Thanks for reading, and please get in touch if you think we might be able to help you with an event, a video project, or you'd just like to sketch out some ideas that you've got kicking around, to give them clarity. Cheers
