Clinical Research Tips of the Month: - The Office of Research recently released a Research Conference Shared Calendar as a centralized electronic resource for research seminars, talks, conferences, and learning opportunities.
MCW Engineering Core now available in iLab - the wide-ranging capabilities of their Design and Fabrication Lab and can accommodate technical requests, repairs to commercially purchased equipment, and specialty projects in custom design and fabrication.
The External Advisory Board for the Neuroscience Research Center at MCW established this award in 2014. The award is funded by the proceeds of the annual Imagine More Dinner. The purpose of the award is to allow an MCW faculty member to carry out research designed to transform our ability to prevent, treat or cure neurologic or psychiatric disease.
- Michael Keelan, Jr., MD, Research Foundation Award for eligible junior or mid-career investigators without current R01-equivalent funding. One award is available. This is a one-year $50,000 grant.
- Steve Cullen Healthy Heart Scholar Award for all career level investigators with an emphasis on novel and innovative
research. Applications involving a translational component (use of human tissues, etc.) are highly encouraged. One award is available. This is a one-year $50,000 grant.
- Cardiovascular Center Mini-Grants to acquire pilot data that will lead to the successful submission of an extramural grant application or manuscript. Priority will be given to applications that include a response to reviewers’ comments either from an extramural study section(s) or journal submission(s) from the last 2 years. Up to 10 one-year awards are available for $5,000 to $20,000 each.

Grant Application emailed to Nicole Davis Due: April 7, 2020In an effort to advance cancer research with a goal of improving the health of Wisconsin citizens, the Medical College of Wisconsin Cancer Center is seeking proposals for nonclinical trial cancer research projects. No cost extensions for Basic and Population science may not be available due to funding source constraints. MCWCC Pilot Grants are using a database system to collect your letter of intent, cover sheet, and annual progress reports. Begin the
process. You will be prompted to log in to the Faculty Collaboration Database before completing the letter of intent (LOI).
ACS Pilot Research Grant
$30,000; 1-year award with the potential to obtain a
$20,000 supplement for a second year with evidence of an extramural funding application in progress
Basic Science
$50,000 1-year award - up to two awards
Population Health
$50,000 1-year award - up to two awards
Applicants must have a primary faculty appointment at MCW and apply within the 4 years of their first faculty appointment at MCW. Established MCW faculty or postdoctoral fellows are not eligible. Applicants can be at Assistant or Associate Professor rank at time of application. Faculty with previous R01 or equivalent grant funding are not eligible to apply as Principal Investigator. Co-investigators with previous R01 or equivalent grant funding are permitted. It is inappropriate to receive funds for
similar projects from more than one funding source (i.e. CTSI, Cancer Center, Digestive Diseases, CVC, AHW, NIH, American Heart Association etc.). Faculty may receive funding in this category one time only.
NIH Surgical Disparities Research (R01 - Clinical Trial Option)
Application budgets are not limited but need to reflect needs of proposed project/5 years maximum
LOI Due Date: May 5, 2020
GCO Due Date: May 29, 2020
NIH Due Date: June 5, 2020The goal of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to stimulate research focused on understanding and addressing health disparities in surgical care and outcomes for patients who are from minority and other health disparity populations. The NIH-designated health disparity populations include minority racial and ethnic groups (Blacks/African Americans, Hispanics/Latinos, American Indians/Alaska Natives, Asians, Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders) as defined by the U.S. Census, socioeconomically disadvantaged populations, population groups residing in rural medically underserved geographic areas, and sexual gender minorities.
Abstracts should be submitted as a Microsoft Word document file attachment to Amy Fronberry at afronberry@mcw.edu. The entirety of the abstract (title, authors, affiliation, and text) may not exceed 2400 characters and spaces. The top abstracts will be selected for oral presentation.
The mission of the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST) is to serve as the premier scholarly organization for surgeons dedicated to the field of trauma and the care of critically ill surgical patients. The AAST is dedicated to discovery, dissemination, implementation, and evaluation of knowledge related to acute care surgery (trauma, surgical critical care, and emergency general surgery) by fostering research, education, and professional development in an environment of fellowship and collegiality.
Abstracts should include recently published or ongoing investigations. We encourage work that showcases either(1) Concepts and methodologies in the areas of Genomic Sciences, Data Sciences, and Precision Medicine -- namely basic, translational, clinical, or community research in the areas of Genomics, Epigenomics, Microbiome, Pharmacogenomics, Cancer Precision Medicine, Undiagnosed & Rare Diseases of Children & Adults ("Clinomics"), Genetic Counseling, Public Health, or Health Disparities. -OR- (2) Investigations that uncover unmet needs that could benefit from further study in the field of Genomic Sciences, Data Sciences, and Precision Medicine, e.g. patient cohorts, tumor profiling, populations, etc.
