As we age, we lose volume in this area causing the skin to sag, forming jowls and nasolabial folds (the grooves that run from the nostrils to the corners of the mouth). Flattened cheeks also contribute to the shadows or “bags” beneath the eyes, giving a tired appearance. Cheek augmentation can help improve the shape of the face and restore that attractive, refreshed appearance. One of my favorite fillers for lifting and contouring the cheeks is Voluma. This is a hyaluronic acid with great lifting ability and last for up to two years. Although this product provides immediate results, you will continue to notice changes over the next 3-4 weeks. Another filler to consider is Sculptra, a poly-L-lactic acid, which is a collagen stimulator. Sculptra is not for the individual wanting immediate results. This product promotes a gradual improvement over about 4-6 months and typically requires 2-3 treatments. The cost of cheek augmentation varies depending on the amount of volume loss you have and the product you plan to use. The easiest way to learn what would be the best product for you and how much you will likely need, is to come in and see one of our injectors for a complimentary consult and together we will develop a treatment plan that fits you. Make your appointments with Erika now! You can schedule with her by calling 479-254-9662, Option 2. Sit comfortably and relax while unwanted fat is being selectively targeted and destroyed. Treat the circumference of the entire abdominal area or tone the legs. With Vanquish, the treatment session is short, pleasant, and safe. Treatments are usually scheduled 7 to 10 days apart and we recommend 4 – 6 sessions. Results may vary from patient to patient depending on many factors. Measurable circumferential reduction is common. For best results it is recommended to practice light to moderate exercise, such as walking, along with following a healthy diet and drinking plenty of water. 2018 has been another wonderful year at Hull Dermatology and Aesthetics. We've had a lot of accomplishments and have many wonderful plans for the future. All of our work is directed at making your experience at our clinic better. That is why we made the biggest change, which was to add three more board-certified physicians to our staff. Dr. Garone and Dr. Steinhoff have been a tremendous help to Dr. Hull and they have both been welcomed warmly by you. Dr. Kaley works in our pathology lab and has proven herself an asset to Dr. Mills and her staff. The addition of the three of them to our Hull family has made a huge difference to our patients. Our on-site store, The Skin Solution, celebrated its third birthday during our Spooktacular Open House. The store, like the event, is a huge success. Audrey is working on new ideas for 2019 that will improve your experience while doing wonders for your overall skin health. Speaking of the store, we added several new products this year like Jane Iredale Skin Accumax, SkinMedica Lumavive, SkinCeuticals Daily Moisture, and Avene Micellar Lotion. Another new edition was the introduction of Novathreads. Our injectors are doing amazing things combining the power of these threads with fillers. We also added new applicators to our CoolSculpting machine which help us treat a more diverse group of patients. Another upgrade was our scalp PRP treatment, which is better than ever. In addition, Erika just added body waxing to our repertoire. From brows to bikinis, we have you covered! Finally, we are in the process of launching a new exciting treatment, Infini. This radio frequency microneedling machine will customize your skin rejuvenation and is safe for all skin types. For patients who experience anxiety during treatments, we will soon offer Pro-nox. This nitrous oxide device will ease the nerves of some of our patients and can be used on a variety of treatments. Our final update is our Skin Care Club. We have introduced monthly payment plans and are changing the tiers so patients wishing to join will see different benefits than in the years past. We are looking forward to 2019 and providing even more products and procedures for you. Keep in mind that our Spring Patient Appreciation Days are coming around again in April. We will give you more details in the coming months. Thank you again for being the best. We couldn't do any of this without you! Makeup, Lighting, and Filters...a Temporary Illusion Aesthetic Medicine Offers a Longer Lasting Correction By: Susie Reed, Nurse Injector Ever since I attended the Illumination Tour sponsored by Allergan Medical Institute this past September, I have been excited to share with our clients a new way to look at facial aging and correction. In today's world, makeup, lighting, and use of photo filters have created some unrealistic expectations for everyone, but they have also helped the aesthetic injectors of today understand how the anatomy of the aging face affects the facial appearance. Injectors have increased their focus on enhancing the eye catching highlights of the face, rather than just filling lines. The light and shadows of the face are the result of convexities and concavities. Convexities curve out and reflect light and concavities curve in to create shadows. The natural convexities of the face include the forehead, cheekbones, bridge of nose, lips, chin, and jawline. The natural concavities of the face include under the eyes, the area just under cheekbones, nasolabial folds or parentheses lines, and area under the chin. Now to all the makeup gurus out there that "contour", you have already been highlighting your convexities and shadowing your concavities to draw attention of the eye to the highlights which brighten the face. Playing up the shadows is just as important as highlights and creates balance of light over the face. Changes in facial anatomy as we age affect convexities and concavities and we tend to lose some of the most eye-catching facial highlights, which are the forehead, cheekbones, and lips. A forehead should be a broad, smooth surface with a gentle arc and uniform reflection of light. As we age, we lose bone structure and fat and the once smooth, even surface will give way to shadow-trapping wrinkles and loss of highlights. Loss of volume in the cheeks diminishes the most defining highlight on the face, the cheekbones, which should be high and rounded with a subtle S-shaped curve. It can also accentuate shadows under eyes and contribute to shadow trapping lines around the nose mouth. Finally, your lips often attract immediate attention. Any lines, hollowness, or sagging around your mouth casts subtle shadows. Therefore, if you want to make the most of your lips, conceal the area around them to cancel out any discoloration. This makes your lips stand out a little more. A longer lasting result would be to restore the volume lost or fill in the lines and shadows with dermal fillers like Volbella and Juvederm. Want lips to look a little more voluminous? A little concealer or highlighter can help there, but dermal fillers can help add more dimension to deflated lips, too. The results will also last longer than your one day illusion of makeup. Now lets talk about Photoshop, photos filters, photo angles and lighting. PHOTOSHOP/FACETUNE/PHOTO FILTERS LIGHTING: YOUR BEST FRIEND OR WORST ENEMY Fluorescent lights or LED lights are usually directly overhead can cast or create funky shadows on your face. Beauty light refers to artificial lighting that is specifically intended to make you look pretty: a full-spectrum light that’s not too insanely bright but softens the shadows and enhance the highlights. Natural light continues to be the most flattering — just think of your lush, bold beach vacation photos. Now lets have some fun. To prove this, let's look at two faces of the same person, same position but different lighting. And the last picture is just about the angle the photo was taken. This photo proves that we can all create a double chin just based on the angle the photo was taken. Here is another look at lighting and how it affects someone's look. Just pause a few times and you can see how the lighting from below and the sides brings out unflattering lines under the eyes and shadows her forehead in odd ways. From above, you see high cheekbones, smooth skin, and well shadowed eyes. This is the same person but lighting affects drastically change her appearance from flattering to not so flattering. What an amazing year this has been! I started working at Hull Aesthetics in January and I have loved every minute of it. I truly had no idea just how much I had to learn. It was a rather overwhelming start, but with Susie and Kendall there every step of the way, it has been a very rewarding and exciting experience. I was fortunate enough to be able to attend several trainings this past year as well. In April, Millie, Susie, Kendall, and I got to attend a hair restoration with PRP training in Las Vegas. Our patients are seeing very positive results from this treatment! If you are suffering from hair loss, please contact our office to set up a consultation to see if PRP could help you. Then, in August, Susie and I attended the Aesthetic Extender Symposium in Florida to learn about new products on the horizon, new injection techniques, and managing complications with injectables. Most recently, I was able to attend my first Master Injector training in Nashville. It is so important to see how others work and share tips and tricks of our trade to provide the best outcomes for our patients. I am humbled by the trust my clients place in me. I will continue to learn and grow as an injector so that I can give them the very best!!! I am so very grateful for this opportunity I can’t wait to see what next year brings! Missed Appointment Policy We have recently amended our Missed Appointment Policy. We try to contact all of our patients at least 24 hours before their scheduled appointment to remind them of the date and time. If you can't keep a scheduled appointment, please inform us by telephone at least 24 hours in advance to avoid a "no show" fee. Missing an appointment scheduled for an hour or less will incur a $50 fee and missing an appointment scheduled for more than one hour will incur a $100 fee per hour. You will be unable to schedule a new appointment or receive any other services until this fee is paid in full. Thank You! We at Hull Dermatology & Aesthetics are thankful for all of our patients. To our existing patients, I say thank you. For our new patients that are just joining our family, I welcome each of you. My staff and I
are dedicated to providing outstanding medical and cosmetic dermatology for the Northwest Arkansas area and beyond. |
