Highlight: ​Career Information Session: Medical Affairs & Pharmaceuticals (not R&D!)


Graduate students, postdocs and medical students in Life Sciences are invited to attend an information session on Medical Affairs offered by Zipher Medical Affairs and hosted by CareerLAB.

Medical Affairs is relatively less known area in Pharmaceutical industry, attractive to scientists who have in-depth scientific experience, and want to go into the Phamaceutical industry in a non R&D role.

Zipher is a specialty boutique consulting company with its headquarters in Marion, MA. Zipher provides strategic and tactical and operational services to Medical Affairs branches of pharmaceutical companies. Zipher's clients are generally the big pharmaceutical companies, with a specialty in oncology, but also services in other therapeutic areas. Zipher anticipates rapid growth, with diverse opportunities at different levels.

Representatives from Zipher will discuss the career field of Medical Affairs; opportunities and growth in the field; and information about the company, including current and potential opportunities. Pizza will be served. We hope to see you there!

Clinical and Translational Research Course for PhD Students
As we shared two weeks ago, applications to attend this course offered by the NIH Clinical Center are being accepted now through March 30, 2016. Should you be accepted into the program, the BioMed Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies will provide you the funds to support your lodging, food, and transportation to attend the two week (July 11-22) course. So please submit your application today!

Science Policy Immersion Program for Graduate Students
Offered by the Center for Engagement & Training in Science & Society, graduate students in science, engineering and related disciplines, who are interested in how decisions about science and innovation funding, regulation and policy are made will benefit from this program. Students with an interest in careers in science policy will also find this to be an excellent opportunity to learn about important fellowship programs and meet current science and innovation policy professionals. There are two workshops being offered:
1. Science Outside the Lab workshop: June 13-24. Application deadline: March 30, 2016.
2. Science Diplomacy & Leadership workshop, with special focus on Latin America and the Caribbean: June 26-July 2. Application deadline: March 31, 2016.

CAPS Expands Access via Saturday Hours at Health Services
Starting March 5, 2016, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) will begin offering Saturday appointments to graduate and medical students. Saturday appointments will be held at Health Services, 13 Brown Street, from 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM through the academic year. Interested students can schedule appointments by calling CAPS at 863-3476 during regular business hours (Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM).

Thomas McKenna Meredith '48 Postdoctoral Fellow in Environmental Science - Trinity College - Hartford, CT

The Environmental Science Program invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral position in Environmental Science to begin in the fall term of 2016. The preferred candidate has a strong interest to combine teaching in the liberal arts environment with a dynamic research project that includes active participation from undergraduates. The successful candidate will teach two courses per year: an introductory course in environmental science and an upper-level course in the candidate’s area of expertise. The position also allows for participation in existing on-campus research or the development of new research projects according to the candidate’s own interests. Research with undergraduate student participation is expected. Research space and limited funds for on-campus research will be provided.

At the time of appointment, the candidate should have a PhD in an environmental field, such as biology, chemistry, geology, meteorology, hydrology, oceanography, or physics, with a research specialty in some area of environmental science. Neuroimaging Data Manager - The Child Mind Institute - New York, NY

The Child Mind Institute is currently recruiting a Neuroimaging Data Manager (NDM) to oversee the collection, organization, quality assurance and sharing of EEG, fMRI and eye-tracking data obtained through CMI initiatives. In particular, these initiatives will include: 1) the CMI Clinical-Research Integration, which is actively working to obtain cognitive performance and EEG data from patients interested in participating and research, and 2) the Healthy Brain Network, which is a large-scale community-focused data acquisition effort that is obtaining EEG and multimodal MRI data from children and adolescents (ages 5-21) with a range of psychiatric presentations. The NDM will be responsible for the training of research assistant staff in the collection of data and monitoring of performance for quality. Additionally, the NDM will be responsible for the organization, quality assessment of EEG and fMRI data, as well as basic preprocessing. Additionally, the NDM will help to coordinate the open sharing of data with other researchers around the world.

Qualifications include a masters degree in psychology, neuroscience, computer science, engineering, or other related areas (doctoral degree preferred); a minimum two years’ experience with the collection and analysis of EEG data; prior experience with the collection and analysis of functional MRI data is preferred, though not required; intermediate programming skills in either Python or Matlab; proficiency in Linux/Unix operating systems; strong knowledge of standard office software applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
