BOFA 2016 – Dates For The Diary

The sixth annual Tasmanian Breath of Fresh Air Film Festival will be held:

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 10 TO SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 13, 2016

37 movies, film competitions, community and innovation action sessions, master classes, BOFA Fringe and the Innovative Tasmania Awards over four action-packed days at Inveresk.

BOFA is all about innovation, so, what’s new for 2016?

Last year we introduced “What’s Your BOFA?”, highlighting the many different aspects of our unique film festival.  Judging from your feedback, you liked it, so we’re going to expand the concept this year with nine different aspects of BOFA:

FEATURESBOFA, DOCOBOFA, FAMILYBOFA, FOODIEBOFA, IDEASBOFA, GENDERBOFA, ECOBOFA, SHORTFILMBOFA and RETROBOFA.

We’ll give you more details as these sectors are developed throughout the coming year.

One of the frustrations of running BOFA (particularly to Helen, our Program Director) has been that some films we would like to have shown are not available in a format we can use.  A priority for this year is the purchase of a DCP server, which would extend our choice to the whole worldwide range of feature and documentary films.  We’ll be looking for support to make this possible, including crowdfunding...watch this space!

This year will see not our usual one, but THREE short film competitions:  the  BOFA Devil short film competition (national), Parks and Wildlife Tasmania short film competition (national) and Hawthorn Football Club short film competition for junior footballers (Tasmania only). Entries for the BOFA Devil  and Hawthorn Football Club short film competitions open in April.

The Parks & Wildlife short film competition
Tasmania’s Parks – a Place to Connect

The Parks & Wildlife short film competition celebrates 100 years of National Parks in Tasmania and is open for entries NOW.

We invite anyone who loves Tasmania’s wild places to share how you connect with Tasmania’s parks through stills and moving images of your travels, your stories and your special connections with nature, your inner self or your companions.
You are invited to submit your short films (maximum length 3 minutes)

Entries are now open and close at COB Monday 1st August, 2016.

Prizes worth $2000 are on offer to the winner and runner-up.  Sponsors Tasmanian Parks & Wildlife Service are providing a return helicopter trip and one night stay for two people on Matsuyker Island or a double pass to the new Three Capes Track (worth $990), and an annual Parks Pass.  The winner will also receive a double pass for the Tasman Island Cruise valued at $250 donated by Pennicott Journeys and an OzPray 22lt Talon22 day pack valued at $140 donated by Paddy Pallin Launceston

The winner and selected short film makers will be publicly recognized at a film industry drinks event at the 2016 BOFA Film Festival. The winner will be presented with a hand crafted blown glass BOFA Devil Award. All selected short film makers, including the winner, will be sent a FREE 8 pass to see 8 films of their choice.

Marie Lubet
Straight From Cannes To BOFA

BOFA will this year host its first international intern in Marie Lubet, a French undergraduate MBA student with a strong interest in film and events management.

A position of Assistant Project Manager with Tech Event for the Paris Air Show and Cannes Film Festival led to her present position as Marketing and Sales Assistant at Marché du Film - Festival de Cannes.

Her four months in Tasmania, from August to November will give her first hand experience in the planning and management of a small regional film festival.

She chose Tasmania’s BOFA Film Festival for her internship because of its creativity and emphasis on innovation.
Marie comes from Levallois, near Paris, has excellent English and is an undergraduate at the Neoma Business School in Rouen.

Could you offer Marie accommodation for all or part of her stay?

We are looking for host accommodation for Marie from August to November. If you could help, or would like more information, phone BOFA Festival Director Owen Tilbury on 0407 501 287

BILLETING A FILM MAKER AT BOFA 2016

Many film makers visit Launceston to attend BOFA, and where possible, we like to offer them billeted accommodation. It’s much more pleasant and personal than staying in a hotel and we like to call BOFA the “friendly film festival”. If you could offer one of these young film makers accommodation in Launceston for a few days during the Festival, please let us know . Who knows, you could be hosting a rising star, and in the future will be able to say “I knew him/her when.....”

Please phone on 0407 501 287 or email owentilbury@bofa.com.au
