Learning to act
Macgeorge Fellow Professor Mary Luckhurst from the University of York believes a physical approach to staging text called ‘Pulse’, devised by VCA lecturer and theatre-maker Tanya Gerstle, could revolutionise actor training in the United Kingdom. In 2015, Bloomsbury Press will publish Physical Acting: Words Made Flesh, co-authored by Gerstle and Luckhurst. In this book Pulse will be explained clearly alongside exercises contextualised by case studies showing its application to classical and contemporary text or a devised piece. Established Australian actors and directors will also shed light on their own interpretations of the method.
