SHRIMPS, ANTS, WINE AND SAKE
Food that’s weird and wonderful, the world’s greatest wines (or are they?) and the rich, secretive and spectacular world of Japanese sake- all on the menu at this year’s Food and Wine BOFA.
Noma in Copenhagen has four times been chosen World’s Best Restaurant. Ants on a Shrimp follows Noma chef Rene Redzepi as he sets up a world class pop-up restaurant in a Tokyo hotel, creating an extraordinary 14 course menu based on unique local ingredients. A must see for its culinary magic, and yes, he does serve (live) ants on a shrimp.
THURSDAY, 7.30PM ANNEXE THEATRE
Sour Grapes is a mystery set in the rarefied world of international wine auctions. Rudy Kurniawan made a fortune fooling the world’s richest wine connoisseurs, until a Burgundian wine producer became suspicious. Hilarious, fascinating and always entertaining, Sour Grapes proves that truth really is stranger than fiction.
SUNDAY, 2.30PM TRAMSHEDS THEATRE
Kampai! For the Love of Sake unravels the mystique of Japan’s traditional rice wine through the eyes of three passionate Western advocates. Their stories form a fascinating snapshot of how ancient traditions are adapting to the demands of a growing global market as sake wins fans all over the world.

MONSIEUR MAYONNAISE
One of the big hits of the Melbourne International Film Festival, Monsieur Mayonnaise is not your normal foodie film- it’s a lively, colourful, tasty and uniquely personal take on 20th-century history, art, food and family. Filmmaker Philippe Mora (Mad Dog Morgan) is producing a graphic novel about his late father, Georges, the legendary Melbourne art patron and restaurateur, and his mother, the artist Mirka Mora. The book (and the film) covers Georges' astonishing history as part of the French resistance during World War II, his friendship with renowned mime Marcel Marceau (Philippe's godfather), and how together they saved thousands of Jewish lives with a fiendishly simple trick involving baguettes and mayonnaise.
