What is the X-Factor?

Do you have good separation between your hips and torso at the top of your backswing? Can you increase your X-Factor “stretch” during transition?

 

Learn about what these terms mean and its effects on a golfer’s performance at our upcoming educational seminar on December 1st. Lead by Physical Therapist and certified Titleist Performance Institute Fitness and Medical Professional, Chris Cooper PT, DPT, CSCS, and PGA Professional, Brandon Kearney, you will learn what a golfer’s X-Factor is, how it can impact their swing and performance, as well as information on how to have your X-Factor assessed using the 3D motion analysis K-Vest system. 

 

Seminar Instructors:
Chris Cooper PT, DPT, CSCS

A Montana native, Chris received his Master’s of Science degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Montana in 1999. He finished his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Montana in May 2010. Chris is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, as well as a Level 2 Certified Golf Fitness Instructor and Medical Professional through the Titleist Performance Institute.

 

Brandon Kearney PGA Professional

Graduated from San Diego State University in 2002 with a major in Psychology. Played collegiate golf At San Diego State for the #6 ranked team in the country. Played professional golf overseas in U.K. and Portugal on the Euro Pro Tour in 2003 & 2008 Canadian Tour member.

We’ve all heard of it, but do we have it?  Can you get more of it? What is it in the first place? The term was originally coined by renowned teacher Jim McLean in the December 1992 issue of Golf Magazine. It was described as the angle differential between the hips and the shoulders at the top of the golf swing. This can also be described as separation between the hips and shoulders. The greater the difference/separation, the more potential power one is able to create. We now know that there is a more important “factor” in creating additional power—that is, how much a golfer can stretch the differential in transition (start of the downswing).
