Smart sensors in pipeline for water supply network

Watch the 'Beyond wellheads' report to Council

Christchurch City Council will consider spending an additional $2.2 million next year to improve the security of the district’s drinking water supply.

The Council yesterday agreed to consider adding $2 million to next year’s budget to install and operate smart pressure and acoustic sensors in the water supply network, as well as an additional $200,000 to help reduce the potential for backflow into the network through greater auditing of commercial water connections.

Burnside fill station flowing

We've installed a second drinking water fill station at our Burnside pump station beside the Burnside Park Tennis Club, 336 Avonhead Road.

People can enjoy free spring water drawn from a depth of 200 metres, tested daily to make sure it meets New Zealand's Drinking Water Standards, and untreated with chlorine.

A second fill station is available at the Keyes Road pump station in New Brighton, opposite 374 Keyes Road.

Right: Brothers Jamie and Joe Baker try out the new Burnside fill station.
