Distinguished honorees included three organizations and three individuals: Downtown Flushing Transit Hub BID, UnitedHealthcare Asian Initiatives, the CPC Home Attendant Program, Liu Tee Shu of the Shu Enterprise Group, Vivian Shen of Senior Whole Health, and William Wang of Healthfirst.
Manhattan Learn and Earn Program Visits GoogleOn April 26th, the Manhattan Learn and Earn Program visited Google’s NYC location for a day of career exploration and professional development. The trip included panel presentations and a tour of the office. An Insider's View Regarding College Persistence in AAPI CommunityCollege transition is a stressful stage for any young person, but how would the experience differ for youth coming from a minority background? Or from an immigrant household? Or as a first-generation college student? CPC partnered with the EastBridge Foundation to address these concerns among low-income Asian American Pacific Islander youth in New York City. The Power of Networking - BEST Mentorship ProgramOn Friday, May 10th, 2019, college students from CPC’s BEST Mentorship Program took advantage of the motivational advice provided by mentors from JPMorgan Chase (JPMC). Queens Learn and Earn Program Hosts Stop 'N' Swap EventOn Saturday, April 27th, youth from our Queens Learn and Earn Program organized and hosted a Stop 'N' Swap event at CPC's Queens Community Center. Their goal was to actively engage the Flushing community in alternative forms of recycling. First Place Awarded to Seven CPC Chrystie Street Afterschool ChildrenSaturday, May 4th was a very exciting day for seven children from CPC Chrystie Street School-Age Child Care Center. The force was with them as they competed in the 22nd Annual Cullman Rookie Chess Tournament and won the first place team trophy! Youth Committee Hosts Sugary Drink Awareness Workshops at Afterschool SitesHigh school students and students from school-age programs at PS 124 and PS 130 participated in interactive workshops on the amount of sugar in beverages. The workshops included matching games in which participants had to guess how many grams of sugar are in different drinks and a Kahoot! quiz game. CPC Brooklyn Community Services Host Education Resource FairOn May 11th, CPC Brooklyn hosted our Annual Education Resource Fair in partnership with A-Plus Academy and Academic Approach, at PS 310. Our Education Fair. Our Event provides education resources for all ages, from UPK to Adult ESL. Sugary Drinks Awareness Campaign Launches to Educate YouthIn collaboration with CPC's Community Health Services’ staff, a Youth Leadership Committee will conduct outreach to AAPI youth on the effects of sugary drinks, learn about marketing practices from the industry, and the impact of sugary drinks on our health and the environment. AAPI HIV/AIDS Awareness Event: Ending HIV Stigma in the AAPI CommunityOn Friday, May 17th, the Community Health Services (CHS) team ran our annual Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) HIV/AIDS Awareness Event at Project Reach. Many youth who attended the event also joined CPC for the AIDS Walk on May 19th.
