On 14 May 1940, Rotterdam was largely obliterated by a massive aerial bombardment. The need to rebuild gave rise to an opportunity to redefine and reinvent the city. Today Rotterdam is an architectural mecca, having spawned some of the most innovative buildings and architectural practices in the world.
