We need a Truck -- This is not a luxury in Haiti!

The Problem

We’ve asked a lot of our current vehicle, a 2007 Mitsubishi Montero, since we purchased it used in 2012. It’s a lightweight SUV being asked to do the work of a heavy-duty truck. This is complicated by the fact that road conditions in Haiti are extremely harsh. In Sous Savanne where we work, roads are rocky, bumpy and often muddy. City commute is not much better, with large potholes and roads littered with debris.
As a result, we’ve broken down multiple times and have spent $9500 in vehicle repairs in two years. The problem has reached a critical stage and is impinging upon our operational effectiveness.

The Solution

A heavy-duty 4x4 pick-up truck with dual cab, diesel engine and manual transmission must be acquired to meet the growing needs of the ministry.

This vehicle will transport:

  • Teams & luggage to and from Port au Prince airport
  • Heavy boxes of “Manna Packs”, rice and other food items as a part of our food distribution program
  • Construction materials for the Houses of Hope and other projects
  • Tools, supplies and equipment for visiting teams

Buying a vehicle for use in Haiti is fraught with challenges. Whether the vehicle is bought locally or attempts are made to import a vehicle, problems abound. After much deliberation and wise, local counsel, we have decided to purchase a used, low-mileage vehicle locally.

WE NEED YOUR HELP

The cost of purchasing a reliable heavy-duty truck is $27,000 +/-. Would you please consider making a gift to help buy this vehicle for the work of Hope Force International in Haiti?

This vehicle will enable us to better serve the people of greater Sous Savanne and our visiting teams. It will also reduce the stress of driving an unreliable vehicle in an already demanding environment.

Thank you for partnering with us to meet this vital need!
