Prosposed cemetery and future sports park for Templeton
At our meeting last Tuesday 27 August we recommended that Council request staff to prepare a development plan for a cemetery and potential future sports park at Maddisons Road in Templeton.
As local government we are legally required, under the Burial and Cremation Act 1964, to provide for community burial needs. With our other cemeteries at, or nearing, capacity, the land at Templeton could cater for the majority of the city’s burial requirements over the next 60-70 years.
We’re also preparing an outdoor sports facilities network plan. As part of this process we have identified this land as a potential location for a possible future major sports park to serve the south west of the city. This is just a proposal – there is no funding and no decisions have been made about a location.
The Council will consider our recommendations at its meeting on 12 September.
