Kingswood College Where Potential Soars Kingswood College

Message from the Principal

Welcome to the 2014 academic year!

Our College theme is ‘Be the Change You Seek in the World’ and comes from Mahatma Gandhi. It is my hope that this challenge will encourage our students to see themselves as powerful agents for positive change.

Already our new staff have commented on how friendly the College community is, and I hope that this is also the feeling for families who have officially joined our community.

Special highlights in the past week include the annual Year 7 camp at Yarra Junction, which was, once again a hugely successful occasion, with students returning knowing their classmates and teachers, and ready to take on the opportunities in Middle School.

Principal

Parents and Friends Association

We would like to welcome all our parents and friends back to Kingswood College for 2014.  It has been so lovely catching up with many of you over the last few days.  To all our new parents in the ELC, Junior, Middle and Senior Schools – welcome!  We hope that you will join the PFA and become an active member of the community you have chosen to join.  It was great to meet many of you at the welcome morning tea on Monday and we look forward to meeting many more of you over the coming weeks.

International Women's Day Dinner

For the third consecutive year the PFA will host a dinner to celebrate International Women’s Day. The dinner will be held at the Box Hill Golf Club on Thursday 6 March from 6.30 pm.

The theme for this year is Ghandi’s quote that you should ‘be the change you wish to see in this world’. We have two great speakers who have done this: Sally Rippin, an author, illustrator and grass roots change maker in her local community of Carlton where she has championed the building of a Literacy Centre; and Nandy Gurr, a local woman working with UNESCO to have children taught in schools in rural areas of East Timor.  Both have a great story to tell and we would love you, your partners, your children (Year 6+) and any friends to join us.  Ticket prices are Adults $60, Students $50.

Tickets can be purchased through Try Booking. Act quickly to avoid missing out as places are limited and will sell quickly.  All proceeds from the evening will be donated to SOSK, a not-for-profit organisation which funds programs to promote education for orphan and slum children and training for destitute women in Kenya.

Sponsorship - International Women's Day Dinner

The International Women’s Day Dinner has become a highlight of the Kingswood College calendar with more than 150 people in attendance and many more who support the fundraising activities that accompany the event.

Before seeking sponsorship from organisations outside the College, we would like to offer the opportunity to Kingswood College families who have their own business or work for an organisation who would like to support the College.  Sponsorship can take many forms including signage and/or advertising in the program, or you may wish to donate an item to the raffle.

If would like to discuss sponsorship opportunities or donate a raffle prize can you please contact Alana Hollenberg or 0408 010 925.
Thank you.

Careers website

I would like to introduce myself. I am the new Careers Counsellor.  I am very excited about joining the Kingswood College community and look forward to working with you in 2014.

I would like to advise you of some careers initiatives and communication tools that I have introduced to Kingwood College this year:

Kingswood College Careers website
I have put together a new Careers website.  This is a one stop shop for everything parents and students need to know about jobs, careers, the range of post school options available, work experience, VCE information and much more!  You will also find a link to the Careers website on Kingsnet.  Simply login to Kingsnet - my Schools, and click on either Middle or Senior School. Both pages include a Careers tab - at the far right of the page -  which will take you straight to the Kingswood College Careers website.
