What Can You Do?/Thanks to All Who Are Working!

Thanks to Lane Watkins for giving us a presentation on how to get out and talk to our friends, neighbors and family about the things going on in our country.  Thanks to the people who came to the meeting and supported our efforts.

It takes a lot of people and a lot of time to make an effective organization.  Our only hope for returning this country to some semblance of a Constitutional Repubic is if people will work toward that effort.  We may already be outnumbered by people who want the government (taxpayers) to take care of them!  One of the ways we can possibly change that dynamic is to get out and talk to people.  Lane has offered to help you get the information you need to reach the people in your community.

For us to have any influence we have to show that our group is a strong group that is ready and willing to stand up and speak out as different issues come up. We also have to show them that we are willing to vote our representatives out of office when they are not following the oath that they took.

Some of the things we are doing:

Printing the American Patriot Newspaper....this paper comes out every two weeks and has a wealth of information not found in local newspapers.  Thanks very much to everyone who helps with this endeavor:  the people who financially support it (we are printing at least 1,300 copies each time at an expense of between $75 and $90 each time.)  Thanks to Pam Hess who does our "local page"; it takes time to find articles and put this part of the paper together.  Thanks to all of our distributors who take their time and gas to get them out in the communities.  We are delivering to Lake City, Live Oak, Branford and Ft. White.  We would love to increase the distribution but this will take more money and more people to help get them distributed.  If you can help with this, please let us know.

To help fund the newspaper and the other expenses that we have, we are holding our 3rd Annual Gun Raffle.  We need people who can help sell tickets for this.  The raffle is for a Smith & Wesson SD9 - 9 mm and the drawing will be held on July 4th at the Branford River Reunion.  If you can help sell tickets, please call either John, 386-935-1705 or Sharon 386-935-0821 and we will get tickets to you.

Holding Phone Banking Sessions in conjunction with Concerned Veterans for America.  The next one is scheduled for Thursday, May 22nd.  If you can help with this, please let us know.  Complimentary dinner is included - we will be making phone calls in an effort to get veterans more involved in the issues facing all of us.

Let us know what you can help with!  Attend as many meetings as you can; invite your friends. Donate when you can.  It takes money to keep an organization going!  Give suggestions for meeting topics.  Attend other local meetings; i.e. County Commission, School Board, Water Management, etc.  Let us know when there is an issue that needs to be addressed by the membership!  If you find something that the membership needs to know about, email it to shiggins@windstream.net.  Put "newsletter" in the subject line.  I will do my best to get it in a newsletter and on our Facebook page.

Sometimes it is easy to get tired and decide you want to give up "because we aren't doing any good"; but is that the answer? What about the children and grandchildren that will have to deal with the messes we have left them?  If you don't think the Tea Party is the answer, I implore you to get involved in whatever ways that you can!  Time is running out!

Common Core Update

Gov. Scott signs three Common Core bills
TALLAHASSEE — Gov. Rick Scott’s office announced Monday he had signed a trio of bills aimed at allaying fears about the state’s version of the Common Core education standards.
Scott also signed another education bill dealing with school grades.
According to Scott’s office, the three Common Core-related measures he signed Monday included:
♦ SB 864, which requires school districts to set up a process through which parents can contest the selection of certain textbooks and classroom materials.
HB 7031, which among other things removes all references to “Common Core” from state law. A set of state standards based on Common Core and using the overwhelming majority of the Common Core standards would remain in place.
SB 188, a bill barring schools or school districts from collecting biometric and other personal information.
Each of the bills addresses one of the concerns raised by activists, mostly but not exclusively conservatives, who have slammed Common Core.
“The legislation I am signing today will set Florida students and families up for education success and prevent unnecessary collection of data from our students and reaffirm that Florida school boards will select the textbooks with historic opportunities for public input,” Scott said in a statement announcing the signings.
Conservatives have criticized the standards, which were commissioned by the governors and chief education officials of dozens of states, as a federal intrusion into school operations that should be handled locally.
That plan, modeled on a blueprint developed by Stewart, would simplify the formula for grading schools.
It would also do away with the penalties schools could currently receive for the grades assigned in the 2014-15 school year, a plan meant to provide a transition year as schools adjust to the new standards and tests.
What do you think?
Dr. Karen Effrem's response:

We will have a full analysis out later today which will be able to be read on our website at www.flstopcccoalition.org where you can also sign up for our updates if you so desire.
