Not the most popular utility provider at the best of times, telcos are rapidly finding themselves in a rather uncomfortable period of forced transition (aren’t we all?) from essential service (and sometimes monolithic monopoly) to providers of...well, what would you like? Whether it’s sports coverage, streaming TV, infosec-as-a-service or building IoT networks, in 2018 diversification is the name of the game. And that’s a good thing. The pressure to deliver competitive new services can only be good for customers. That is, as long as their naughty marketeers don’t start promoting things like “FibreX” services that are, in fact, ex-Fibre. And they better not stuff up the rugby. In other news:
