It is a pleasure to drink bright, cold, sparkling Moscato in Venice, Italy. But why spend all that time on an airplane when we have magnificent Moscato right here in Australia? Fresh, crisp and invigorating, Moscato is a fast-growing wine style, mostly because it is delicious. It has a light, perky fizz and natural raciness; the best are ever so slightly sweet with a refreshing spritziness. They are generally low in alcohol – half, or less, than still wines.
The punchier styles from Italy have become very popular in Australia, and Australian wineries have responded with their own approaches. The sugars that have not fermented into alcohol usually deliver a very appealing richness.
Serve as an aperitif or to toast a celebration, Moscato delivers exactly what you need – and for a reasonable price. World Wine sells more than a dozen different Moscatos.
