2011 Oxfordshire restaurant Awards:

"Restaurant Of The Year" and "Best British Restaurant"

On the 12th of September, The Feathered Nest was invited to attend
an awards ceremony held in Oxford.

Both Amanda and myself are overjoyed with having bestowed upon
The Feathered Nest not only "The Best British Restaurant" award but also the much coveted "Restaurant Of The Year" award.

This is especially rewarding considering that we only opened our doors
in early June last year!

I would like to thank all our staff without whom this would not have been possible.
These awards are a reflection of their hard work and dedication to "The Nest".

I also wish to take this opportunity to thank you, all our customers-friends, for supporting us over the last year. We now look forward to the next challenges ahead!

Tony Timmer

Forthcoming Events

The 2011 Rugby World Cup (New Zealand) games are scheduled to be played over seven weeks starting on 9 September 2011 and culminating in the weekend starting 22 October. The final is scheduled to be played in Auckland at Eden Park.

Join us from the 9 September - 23 October at The Feathered Nest Country Inn to watch the televised key matches. Call 01993 833030 for more information on key match screening times. For the full match schedule, visit the official RWC website.

Wine Tasting - 14 October

Our wine tasting dinner will showcase two of South Africa's
most exciting and young vineyards.

Adi Badenhorst from AA Badenhorst will join us to introduce his wines to you.
Adi, until recently was the winemaker for Rustenberg, but left to strike out on his own, forming AA Badenhorst Family Wines. His 60 hectare farm (with 28 hectares of vines)
is on the Malmesbury side of the Paardeberg Mountain.

Badenhorst is a showman, with a nice line in self-deprecation. He boasts of his lack of winery equipment and primitive facilities, but I suspect that his winemaking decisions – and lack of sophisticated manipulations – is a carefully considered choice.
My visit To Adi's "se plaas" can be found on our website.

Also joining us on the evening will be another of South Africa's
up and coming stars - Duncan Savage.

Duncan is in charge of Cape Point Vineyards located on a narrow strip of peninsula, between the two disparate oceans of the icy Atlantic and the warm currents of False Bay.
Here the first vines were only planted in 1996, yet many accolades have been
bestowed upon this vineyard including the International Award for
best Sauvignon Blanc in the world over £10.00.

Tickets are priced at £75 pp.  Reception drinks at 7.30pm
Dinner at 8pm.  Menu's available on enquiry.

Only a limited number of seats are available for this special event
so to avoid disappointment, please reserve early.

Taittinger Tasting Evening - 17 November

An evening hosted by the Taittinger ambassador, Justin Llewelyn.

The origins of Champagne Taittinger date back to the original house founded in 1734 by Jacques Fourneaux.  However, its links to the Taittinger family started in 1931,
when it was purchased by the founder of today's company: Pierre Taittinger.

This tasting dinner will showcase 5 wines which will be introduced to you by Justin.

Tickets priced at £95 pp. Reception drinks at 7.30pm
Dinner at 8pm.  Menu's available on enquiry.
Again, numbers will be limited to 40 covers, so to avoid disappointment,
please reserve early.

Tickets are very sought after and early reservations are strongly recommended. Tel 01993 833030 for more information.
