This project is being delivered on Keerray Woorroong Country by Parks Victoria and the Eastern Maar Aboriginal Corporation. Works start on stunning coastal lookoutWorks have started on a new lookout in the Port Campbell National Park that will bring visitors up close to the booming waters of the Southern Ocean. Wrapping around ‘The Blowhole’, at the popular Loch Ard Gorge precinct, the lookout will provide a new experience for the millions that visit the Port Campbell National Park. This project is the third for the national park as part of the Victorian Government’s Shipwreck Coast Master Plan. The design of the lookout has been led by the Eastern Maar community, ensuring it reflects the biocultural values of this location on Keerray Woorroong Country. The lookout will resemble a breeching whale, with water from the Blowhole symbolising the whale's breathing. Simpson Construction Company has been appointed to construct the lookout, which is expected to take approximately 12 months, subject to on-ground and construction industry conditions. Nearby at the Twelve Apostles, works are nearing completion on another new lookout. The soon-to-be-completed ‘Saddle Lookout’ replaces viewing areas that no longer catered for visitor numbers, providing a safer and more accessible way to view the iconic rock formations. With construction activity underway in the popular national park, visitors planning their trip should check the park page for any changed conditions. Ongoing project information is maintained on the Parks Victoria website. People can subscribe to future updates on projects in the park here.
