CPC Resource Navigators Support
Rapid Testing Sites in BrooklynCPC's Resource Navigator program is helping the community through the pandemic. In August, the Navigator team was in the field working to connect community members to resources at two Rapid Testing sites at PS 503/506 and Brooklyn Army Terminal. The program is funded by the Mayor's Office of Housing Recovery Operations.

CPC Childhood Development Services Covered by Reuters News ServiceCPC Childhood Development Services was featured in a Reuters News Service story about child care and education during the coronavirus.
Artist Loe Lee created two murals in August for CPC Little Star Early Childhood Center. The murals were made possible by an initiative of Welcome to Chinatown to bring back love and morale to the neighborhood through art that celebrates the culture and narrative of Chinatown. Little Star has been serving nearly 30 children of essential workers throughout the
pandemic.
CPC in Gotham Gazette on Sustaining the Summer Youth Employment Program CPC's Chief Strategy Officer Brian Chen advocated for fully funding the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) in the Gotham Gazette on August 19th. CPC has been providing SYEP services since 1979, including this summer in a modified capacity known as Summer Bridge.
CPC Project Gateway Host Annual College Send-Off EventOn August 5th, CPC Project Gateway: College Connect and EastBridge Foundation hosted its annual College Send-Off Fair to congratulate graduating high school seniors on their achievements, as well as to provide them with resources in their transition to college. This year, the two-hour event was held virtually on Zoom, bringing together 30+ incoming college students and 11 current college students.

Essential Workers Highlight: Priscilla Fok and Margaret Wang of CPC’s Hong Ning Housing As part of our essential workers campaign, we focused on Priscilla Fok, CPC’s Resident Wellness Coordinator, and Margaret Wang, TUC’s Administrative Assistant. Priscilla and Margaret work in partnership to provide on-site services for the residents of Hong Ning Housing for the Elderly, a CPC subsidiary.
CPC Brooklyn Community Services Distributes 570 Meals In partnership with the Street Vendor Project, Stavros Niarchos Foundation, Hispanics in Philanthropy, and Council Member Carlos Menchaca, CPC Brooklyn Community Services kicked off a free meal program on August 20th and distributed 570 freshly prepared hot meals to community members.
CPC Early Childhood Learning & Wellness Launches Family Child Care Networks CPC is pleased to announce the launch of its Family Child Care (FCC) Networks. CPC, working in partnership with the NYC Department of Education, will significantly expand family child care through this new offering, while promoting family child care as a highly respected and valued model within the early care and education system of NYC.

CPC Op-Ed in World Journal: Do Your Part to Fight COVID in Your Community CPC President and CEO Wayne Ho's op-ed was published in World Journal on August 14th. The article shares information on the New York City Test & Trace Corps and calls on everyone to do our part, too.
Essential Worker Highlight: Lena Chang, Member of CPC Leadership Council, Cardiology Nurse Practitioner & Clinical Program Director Two members of CPC Leadership Council, Chris Kuo and Lena Chang, who works as a nurse practitioner at Mount Sinai Union Square and Mount Sinai Beth Israel, discussed what it's been like working at a hospital during a pandemic and the rise in discriminatory and hateful acts towards Asians.
NYCETC Welcomes CPC President and CEO Wayne Ho to Board of Directors On August 10th, the NYC Employment and Training Coalition (NYCETC) announced that Wayne Ho, President and CEO of CPC, has been appointed to the Board of Directors. "I look forward to representing CPC and working with the board members, staff, and member agencies who are all leaders in the education and workforce development field," said Wayne.
Essential Worker Highlight: Jeff Lau, CPC Adult Literacy Director Each week throughout August and September, we are will highlighting the contributions of an essential worker. Jeff Lau, who runs six levels of English literacy courses at CPC, is just one story. Jeff has been volunteering his Saturdays to assist in GrowNYC grocery distribution at CPC Brooklyn Community Center.
CPC in New York Daily News Story About Funding Cuts to NonprofitsCarlyn Cowen, CPC's Chief Policy and Public Affairs Officer, was quoted in a New York Daily News article on August 20th. Carlyn comments on abrupt funding cuts to overhead costs nonprofits need to operate services and programs.
Essential Worker Highlight: Annette Montalvo, Director of CPC’s Hospitality Careers Training Program Annette Montalvo, Director of CPC Hospitality Careers Training Program and Deputy Director of CPC Queens Community Center, is a veteran of the hospitality industry. Annette has assisted generations of community members in gaining the skills they need to find long-term employment.
CPC Cook for a Cause: Cola Chicken Wings and Tofu Salad with Amelie Kang of MáLà Project As a part of the CPC COVID-19 Relief Fund campaign, CPC hosted their second cooking demonstration of the two part series for the Cook For a Cause virtual fundraiser with Amelie Kang of MáLà Project on August 1st.
The ECS Adult Literacy Program is proud to announce a new 8-week Language Exchange Program that will be starting up in October! We will hold a session once a week where interested English speakers and Chinese ESOL students will be given a chance to pair up and practice conversation skills for 1 hour. The session will be divided into two 30-minute parts – 30 minutes of English only and 30 minutes of a chosen Chinese dialect only. Registration is for English speakers.
