WSU Vancouver to graduate 975 at 2016 Commencement

WSU Vancouver will graduate 975 students at its 2016 Commencement ceremony at 1 p.m. May 7 at Sunlight Supply Amphitheater in Ridgefield. Chancellor Mel Netzhammer will preside, and graduating senior Shain Wright, president of ASWSUV, will deliver the commencement address.

WSU Vancouver to present four top awards at 2016 commencement

WSU Vancouver has announced its 2016 awards for research, service to the university, student achievement and teaching. The four recipients will each receive a Chancellor’s Medallion at the commencement ceremony at 1 p.m. May 7 at Sunlight Supply Amphitheater in Ridgefield.

Chancellor’s Award for Research Excellence—John Harrison, associate professor, School of the Environment

Chancellor’s Award for Service to WSU Vancouver—Dan Harmon, Hoffman Construction

Chancellor’s Award for Student Achievement—Allegra Koupal, 2016 graduate in human development

Students’ Award for Teaching Excellence—Gretchen Rollwagen-Bollens, associate clinical professor, biological sciences and School of the Environment

Four Vancouver employees recognized by the Carson College of Business

The Carson College of Business Outstanding Staff Award is given in recognition of outstanding service, reliability, job knowledge, helpfulness, and willingness to go the extra mile for the department, college and university.

Mistie Josephson, Business Growth Mentor and Analysis Program manager, has won the 2016 award. Mistie is dedicated to the success of the program and her team. She regularly attends community events, networks and garners support for the program, makes connections with potential clients and mentors, and fosters the relationships she’s made.

Joe Cote, professor of marketing, has won the Carson College of Business Faculty Scholarship and Research Award. This award recognizes a faculty member’s high-quality research and publications over the past three or more years. For more than three decades, Joe has demonstrated a commitment to high-quality research productivity, with more than a dozen A publications completed and more on the way, including a Journal of Marketing paper accepted for fall. He has also published in several A- journals and other publications of good quality for more than 30 career publications in peer-reviewed journals.

The Carson College of Business also recognized Tom Tripp, professor of management; and Debra Sanders, professor of accounting, associate academic director and MBA faculty director, as Dean’s Excellence Fellows. This award recognizes outstanding performance by faculty in teaching, research and service.

Marcomm adds team member

Kat Connelly has joined the Office of Marketing and Communications as a digital content producer. This is a new position funded as a result of Enrollment Management Plan recommendations. Her responsibilities include creating internal and external digital newsletters, email campaigns and managing social media accounts for the university. She previously worked in a similar capacity for the University of Connecticut.

Kat recently moved from Connecticut to Washington and is happy to be part of the WSU community.

Café’ moves to summer hours

During finals week and summer session, the Dengerink Administration Building Café will be open 7:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. The Commons Café is closed during the summer.

Library hours changing

The library will be open extended hours this week for finals.

  • 7:30 a.m. – 11 p.m. Monday – Thursday
  • 7:30 a.m. – 7 p.m. Friday
  • Closed for commencement Saturday

The library’s summer hours begin May 8 and end on July 29.

  • 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. Monday – Thursday
  • 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Friday
  • Noon – 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday

Radio Re-Imagined: “Gunsmoke” and “The Shadow”

Kiggins Theatre, 1011 Main St., Vancouver, Wash.

The Willamette Radio Workshop will perform two live radio dramas examining Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Directed by Sam A. Mowry, the dramas are episodes from the radio series “Gunsmoke” and “The Shadow.” The performance is part of the Re-Imagined Radio project produced by John Barber, faculty member in the Creative Media and Digital Culture program.
