Research Update

Good afternoon,

Linked below is the May 2017 State-by-State Shipments to Wholesaler Report. Please note changes to historical volumes as some state totals may have changed with newly released state-level data.

Below are some key points from the report:

  • Beer shipments to wholesalers increased by 5.5% during May 2017 compared to May 2016. This increase is the strongest single-month shipment trend since August 2016.
  • This May had one more selling day compared to May 2016, but May’s shipments were still up 0.9% on an adjusted basis.
  • Performance in May was so positive that it improved beer’s year-to-date trend by nearly two points.
  • May shifted year-to-date trends from negative to positive in twelve states, including California, Texas, Michigan, and North Carolina--four of beer’s largest states.
