MEMBER NEWS Washington Traffic Safety Education Association (WTSEA) Virtual Conference"ENGAGING STUDENTS FOR SUCCESS IN A DIGITAL WORLD"Submitted by: Skeet Gaul, WTSEA Conference Co-Ordinator and representative ESD 123 This year’s fall conference was WTSEA’s first ever virtual conference, following ADTSEA’s success in July. Tim Beckham, VP of Oregon Driver Education Center, with his virtual conference experience generously offered to serve as host. On October 10th, four 2-hour workshops were presented. Tim Beckham and Travis Gordon opened with “Engaging Gen-Z in TSE.” They followed with the second workshop, “Practical Applications for Engaging Gen-Z in TSE.” Both workshops were engaging and generated discussion on how their approach could be successfully incorporated into Washington State TSE programs. Mark Butcher and Pam Meyers of the Driver Development Group, presented “Understanding the GDE Matrix and Driver Self Evaluation: Steps for Applying.” This workshop helped people become aware of the importance for TSE instruction to encourage students to use introspection as a way to re-enforce both classroom and BTW instruction. The final workshop was “Current Trends and Legal Updates in Washington State Traffic Safety,” presented by Sergeant Darren Wright, WSP. Darren’s workshops always stimulate an abundance of discussion and questions. It was an excellent anchor to the day’s relay of workshops. Judging by post-conference evaluations, the conference was a success. WTSEA wishes to thank Brett and Leslie Robinson for all of the advice and assistance from ADTSEA. We also wish to thank Tim Beckham for his Zoom Meeting expertise in hosting our conference. WTSEA was incredibly fortunate for Tim’s participation and generosity. Thanks also to the team of 17-individuals who volunteered their time and efforts in making it possible. Additionally, the conference was successful because of the support of several sponsors: AAA, State Farm Insurance, Driving Tests, Tarsus, Drug Free World and Operation Life Saver. 6 in 10 U.S. Parents Experiencing Added Layer of Pandemic Anxiety to Teen Driving, According to a New Survey
