PreK4 eNews

You’ve probably been hearing some old familiar nursery rhymes lately...if not, ask your child to share a few with you. We will continue learning more next week.

Research indicates that hearing and producing words that rhyme is a key component to success in early reading!  Please practice rhyming at home with your child.  We want children to understand that only the beginning part of the word changes, the ending part stays the same in rhyming words.  (Think hog/frog).  Also, nonsense rhyming words have the same benefits and make for a few giggles. (Think cold/pold).

As we continue to rhyme, please see directions below for Show and Tell next week.  This is “homework” and we really need everyone to participate to make our class book.  Please return this in the folder next week.

Next Week

  • Bible Verse: “When I am afraid, I will trust in You.”  Psalm 56:3 (We will practice this verse for two weeks.  Practice at home too!)
  • Bible:  Joseph
  • Reading/Phonemic Awareness: We will introduce the letter “Oo” and the short vowel sound that /o/makes (think octopus and otter). We will also continue to work on rhyming words.
  • Math:  #4 and sequencing
  • Unit: Nursery Rhymes
  • Show and Tell:  Find 2 pictures that rhyme (glue them on the two index cards that are in your child’s folder). The pictures may be from magazines, computer or hand drawn.  (Ex. kite and light)  We will make a class book of rhyming things.

Reminders

  • We participate in the Box Tops for Education program. Continue to send in those box tops!
  • Snacks: Monday through Friday – Cereal, crackers, pretzels, or goldfish.  Dried fruit will be offered.
