Hi there,

It’s Scholarship Time!

Young & Free Alabama is bringing back our annual Scholarship Program and we are giving away over $15,000 in scholarships! This year our panel of judges will select six recipients to receive $2,500 each based on their submitted essay. In addition, applicants can also choose to enter our People’s Choice Award by submitting a 60 second YouTube video. The People’s Choice recipient will be chosen by public vote and will also win $2,500! Whether you are a senior in high school or already in college you can apply for up to $5,000 in scholarships. This is a scholarship you don’t want to miss out on. You can enter now through April 13th and then voting begins April 15th. You can read the rules, find more information, or submit your application all on our 2015 Scholarship Contest page.

Monday Motivation: Careers

As my time in college is quickly nearing an end, I’ve been thinking a lot about what the future holds. Ever since I was a kid I can remember people asking me what I wanted to be when I grew up. Now that I’m 21 and basically on my own, I can honestly still answer… I don’t know. I have learned to take every possible opportunity and explore new areas. You might find you enjoy something you never thought you would. We live in a world that is so fast paced and sometimes we forget to take a second and figure out exactly what we want to do.
Here are my thoughts on this topic.

Filing Your Taxes

The deadline to file your 2014 taxes is right around the corner. Ever since I can remember, my mom has always prepared for tax season all throughout the year. She would always keep receipts and documents she knew would come in handy when it came time to file her taxes. This year I decided to sit down and ask her for some of her tips on what expenses to record and keep to make sure I filed my taxes accurately and got as many deductions as I possibly could. Check out her tips in this blog and learn how you can save $15 by filing your taxes through TurboTax just for being a Guardian Credit Union member. Don’t forget the deadline to file your taxes is April 15th!

The decision to lease or to buy a new car will have an impact on your finances as well as your lifestyle. Understanding the differences will help you make the best decision for you.
