CBS New York Spotlights Nan Shan OAC for Lunar New Year Celebrations On January 29th, CBS New York visited CPC Nan Shan Older Adult Center (OAC) to speak with community members about their celebration of the Year of the Snake. Community members shared that Lunar New Year is a time to reunite with loved ones, enjoy traditional food like noodles and dumplings, and wish each other good health and prosperity. EDUCATIONWe provide high-quality learning opportunities for all ages—from Pre-K and after-school enrichment to adult English language classes—because education is lifelong.
CPC Advocates for Child Care at New York City Comptroller’s Save Child Care Rally On January 23rd, Mary Cheng, Director of Childhood Development Services at CPC, and her team attended New York City Comptroller Brad Lander’s Save Child Care Rally at Grand Street Settlement. The rally was held in response to the City’s sudden closure of five child care centers, including our partners Grand Street Settlement and Nuestros Niños.
CPC's Job Training Program Equips Graduates for Success in the Labor Market CPC Education Career Services team celebrated the graduation of 15 students from the Soft Skills & Job Placement Program. The program provides essential skills and personalized instruction in areas such as communication, problem-solving, and resume building. These skills empower students to build confidence in the workplace and prepare for job searches. Helen Chen Receives 2025 Hero Award for Her Work in Aging Services On January 28th, Helen Chen, Director of the CPC Brooklyn Older Adult Center, received the 2025 Hero Award from LiveOn NY. She was recognized for her 14 years of dedication to improving the lives of older New Yorkers at CPC and her ongoing advocacy for older adults.
CPC Discusses Community Issues with Deputy Mayor Almanzar On January 8th, Deputy Mayor for Strategic Initiatives Ana Almanzar met with CPC and several children and family organizations to share the Mayoral Administration's preparations for the new Presidential Administration. Wayne Ho, CPC’s President & CEO, emphasized the need for a strong partnership between City Hall and the need to use more inclusive language. CPC Holds 7th Annual State Advocacy Day in Albany On January 22nd, CPC gathered in Albany for our 7th Annual State Advocacy Day. Over 400 CPC staff and community members called on New York State to make critical investments in support of Asian American Pacific Islander, immigrant, and low-income communities. Attendees participated in activities, including a rally, meetings with legislators, arts and crafts, and a Capitol tour. CPC also met virtually with nearly 50 state legislators the following day to continue advocating for public policy priorities.
